Strick11: What were your S's stats? SAT scores? GPA? Number of Leadership positions? And what school did she apply to?

I'm afraid he probably wouldn't like me sharing his stats. They weren't the best anyone's seen here, but they were strong.

Can you at least tell me what school he applied to?

SCS..........

Man, I wanna get in...

Did anyone get in to SCS? Any girls besides me?

I applied and I'm female... I'll tell you if I get in. :)

if you had to choose between cmu scs and northwestern mccormick, which would you choose?

i'm really interested in computer science, but there's also a very good chance that i might get disinterested one day and want to delve into other things. i love history a lot and if i went to scs, then i have a feeling i won't get as good humanities as i would at northwestern. scs is obviously the best for cs, but cmu isn't as good as northwestern in other subjects... what are you opinions?

I got in! AIM me if you want: violagirl1010

When my son was looking at schools 2 years ago, someone at MIT (a person he met with on a visit) told him that the SCS at CMU is at least as good as MIT and maybe better. And I understand that admissions in SCS are quite selective. Congrats to all who got in.

Well MIT used to be better, back in like '97, but since then CMU has closed the gap and is now ranked above MIT in most of the rankings I have seen. I think it might be because of the fact MIT blends their CS and CE classes where CMU keeps them separate. I'm not saying MIT is shabby at all, my boyfriend is going there next year.

so how good is ece at cmu?

From the point of view of an employer (ignoring any alumni biases, job specifics, etc), how do you think a CS/ECE double major from CMU would stack up against an EE major from Caltech or a CS/EE double major from Stanford? Would you take CMU over Stanford and Caltech for CS/ECE? (I'm trying to decide among the three ^^)

^I think they would look at other things. None of those are implicitly better than the others.
