So I was reading the website for CMU's School of Design under CFA... and they weight your academics 50% and portfolio 50%?

:/ I'm kind of worried.. My academics are decent, but I'm unsure about my drawing skills. I've been doing art for my whole life basically, but I just don't feel like I have "it".... that "art gene" that some of the really talented kids in my art class have.

So, just wondering... compared to other art schools, would you need to have better art skills to get into CMU's school of design? As in, do you need to have an extremely strong portfolio to get accepted? What is this level of "strong" compared to the level you need for schools like parsons or mica etc.? Idk if I'm being clear enough but ... yeah.

Apparently only like 45 kids enroll each year at the school of design... tough competition.

"What is the acceptance rate?
Approximately 450 students apply to the School of Design each year. Our target number for incoming freshmen is 45. Thus, we have approximately a 10% acceptance rate. "

thanks though. haha of course i want to make sure my portfolio is really good, but i don’t know if i have the ability

School of Design has a 15% acceptance rate, based on last year’s statistics.
I’m also applying this year, and freaking out just as much as you are! Good luck! I’d love to hear all the answers to the questions you’re asking as well. :)

Also, compared to other school acceptance rates: Parson’s is around 50%, I think. RISD is more like 28% or so. However, I don’t know what the difference is in applicants. It’s not going to be the same group of people, since the schools are all so different, I would think…

I am also applying to CMU’s school of design, and have the same problem just slightly different! My portforlio is really good, its my academics that arent decent. But we’ll see what happens? By the way are you doing you portfolio review on campus or online?
Anyway good luck :)
