Just wondering how hard is it to get into Vanderbilt's school of engineering? i see that the acceptance rate for the school of engineering is just a little above 50%. i checked the undergraduate engineering school rankings and found out that Vanderbilt was not even in the top 50 of the engineering schools. does this mean that the engineering school at vanderbilt is not extremely competitive?

I think the high acceptance rate is partially due to the self-selective nature of the program. Prospective engineers tend to be highly driven, intelligent people, perhaps more so than the general applicant pool. This could account for the difference in admission rates.

I believe last year Vandy's undergraduate engineering was tied with Yale, Dartmouth, and Notre Dame. It was definitely within the top 50. Have the rankings changed that much since last year??

Vandy engineering is not as prestigious as other programs, but it lends itself to generating well rounded engineers who can take classes in art history and theiory of thermodynamics at the same time. I would take that advantage over pure number cruinching at MIT any day!

vanderbilt is in the top 10 when comparing/contrasting to schools of similar size. the engineering rankings give weight to sheer volume of publications i think, which would work heavily against vanderbilt because of its size
