(This isn't something I would ever do, but I'm just Wondering)

Let's say a high school senior is rejected from columbia college,
If he/she takes year off and applies to the school of General Studies does
he/she have a good chance of getting in????

well, the school of general studies is less selective than columbia college, but they are looking for nontraditional students.. i doubt taking a year off would render you nontraditional, as lots of people defer for a year and then go into cc.

what would render someone to be considered a nontraditional student

the gs website, which you could have looked up perfectly well on your own, says this: "Nontraditional students include persons who have interrupted their educations since high school for at least one academic year or individuals who have compelling personal or professional reasons to attend college on a part-time basis."
so i guess you could take a year off and then apply to gs. it just seems not that nontraditional to me. a lot of people in gs are much older than the average 18-year-old college freshman.. some were in the military, some dropped out of school because they had to work or be parents, maybe some were in jail (this would probably affect your admission though, lol) etc etc.

I'm in gs...im pretty sure there is a three year waiting list before they allow you to reapply to any undergrad school in columbia.
