School of Hotel Administration Interview

I scheduled an interview in NYC this fall for the SHA (required) and had some questions about what to expect. They say *"Bring a r

Hey there. I am surprised you are doing the interview so early.
I am a rising senior too and wants to apply for hotel in Cornell.

I am pretty sure the r

I actually just got the confirmation today, but my interviewer said he’s gonna wait til October to start the interviews.

And yeah I was thinking a suit might be a little over the top. Maybe just a blazer and a dress shirt with khakis? I don’t know haha

How was the Cornell summer program btw? I was going to apply, but I didn’t find out about it early enough, so I ended up applying to the BU summer program.

How are your guys’ standardized test scores and grades? I have lots of experience in the industry (evident throughout the past four years) and my scores/grades are good, but not amazing – probably not good enough to get me into the other schools at Cornell. Regardless, the Hotel School is my TOP choice and I am extremely passionate about the industry. How are my chances?!

Also, in regards to the interview – Grades, extracurriculars, and work experience on your r

Parent of two Hotelies here. Dress as if you were interviewing for an entry level management position of a hotel. You want to look stylish and pulled together, as well as business-like. This means a suit. A tie is not out of place, for men.

S1 wore a dark grey suit, with a pale blue shirt with chalk stripes and a green/blue rep tie. He actually picked the outfit off a mannequin at a local department store. He looked the part.

hey guys! I’m applying to the hotel school ED this fall. I had my interview last week, and no my test scores aren’t so hot either

are you applying ED?

Yea, so apparently a suit is pretty much required. No problem with that.

I’m not doing ED and I’m pretty worried about my scores. Only a 1900 and a 3.7…but I’m hoping my industry experience will compensate.

pch340 - what industry experience do you have?

isbhotel - how was your interview? on-campus interview?

It went pretty well I think  Does anyone know the ED acceptance percentages of the Class of 2015?

@smithannie1234

I’ve been working at all kinds of restaurants (& one catering company) since like 10th grade. Worked as a waiter, cook, shift leader (pizza chain), etc. Tried to get jobs at some hotels, but any decent position required 18+

Don’t really know if that’s what they’re looking for, but those jobs are what made me interested in the field…

They’re looking for anything in the field – really overall looking for a bit of a work ethic and a basic feel for customer service along with the right attitude.

When discussing experience, see if you can think it though in context – if you are a waiter, is your job to get the order taken and into the kitchen and then served … or is your job to ensure that your customers have an awesome dining experience?

Does anyone know the average SAT/ACT scores for those accepted to the Hotel School?

These are the statistics from the past years. I’m not sure about the acceptance %s though

[Statistics and Profile](http://www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/admissions/ugrad/stats.html)

The given information is pretty nebulous. Wish I knew more! Anyone applying from overseas?

Go for the suit. The more dressed up, the better.

I’m applying from Europe. You?

I’m applying from Asia, but I’m a US citizen.
isbhotel - was your interview with an alum or at Cornell?

Mine was with an alumni. I’m also a US citizen! So are we considered “International Applicants” since we’re applying abroad? Which country do you live in?

How tough is it to get accepted to this program?
