Ok, I'm aware that IUPUI stands nowhere near IUB as far as the rankings, reputation, placements etc are concerned.

But this thought just crossed my mind. If I'm interested in pursuing Masters' in Bioinformatics, shouldn't I be looking at IUPUI rather than IUB ?

I mean, many medical/genetic/cancer research centres are located in and around Indianapolis. Comparatively, Bloomington doesn't boast of many such centres.

So, the probability of getting internships and stuff would be higher in Indy and not in Bloomington right ?

I don’t think I’m the best person to answer your question, because I don’t know much about how the degrees in Bioinformatics compare at the two different schools. I will say, however, that my informatics professor this past semester works in bioinformatics, and lives in Bloomington. Of course, he also teaches, so that probably factored into his decision to stay in Bloomington. I imagine his website has some links if you’d like to explore this issue further, or potentially contact him.

One can not judge the strength of Bioinformatics by the overall ranking of its school. Our IUPUI school at Indianapolis makes every effort to take the full advantage of its location: the medical school on the same campus and local companies such as Eli Lilly and Dow AgroSciences. We have faculty members (Keith Dunker, Jake Chen, Yunlong Liu, Lang Li and Samy Meroueh) specialized on Cancer related bioinformatics and microarray analysis. We also have adjunct faculty members from scientists in Eli Lilly and Dow AgroSciences. That is, you can directly work with industry scientists on practical problems.

I hope that I have addressed your questions. If not, please feel free to contact me directly.
