School of International Relations (SIR)

I know I've already created this thread in the general USC forum, but I sort of need to get my decision made sooner rather than later...

For those of you that intend to be IR majors, what have you heard about USC's SIR? Is it good/reputable?

I've also been accepted to george washington university in D.C.. and am having a hard time choosing between the two. I feel like USC is a better/stronger overall school, but that GWU has both location and an actual undergraduate college devoted to IR.

Advice, anyone? Thanks

I am also interested in USC's SIR program. Am considering turning down $20,000 USC scholarship to attend Tufts (paying full price). Am I crazy??

Well, it depends. How much finaid are you getting from Tufts? Is finaid a big consideration for you and your family?

Tufts does have the more renowned program in IR, but if $ is an issue, and you're getting zero or near to nothing from Tufts, then you should go where the finaid is.

Have not heard from Tufts financial aid but am expecting 0 due to family income. All other private schools have given me 0.

Hmm, why don't you post under Tufts' thread? You could get more responses.

It sounds like if you expect to receive $0 from Tufts and are still considering Tufts, that USC's finaid is not that much of a deciding factor for you. Sounds like you really want to go to Tufts; and it makes sense, the IR program is the top in the country. I'm an IR senior here, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Good luck!

lolabelle, how about posting this in the parents forum? You will get great input there from parents/professionals/teachers/etc...

USC's financial aid is all merit scholarship. My family can make tufts work financially but have to consider sister going off to college in 3 years and have a hard time turning down $80,000 over 4 years with the thought that I will be going to grad school. btw, my dad is a USC grad and very involved with the school. It's not my favorite due to it's location, size, and amount of students that matriculate from my high school.

It sounds like you have to sit down and talk to your parents. Maybe you can find a happy middle ground? Let us know what you decide!

Hmm..can some more peopel comment on the SIR program...?

I don't think anyone's quite answered kjmaui or my question

Oh, and thanks in advance

i'd like to know too because i've been accepted to SIR and i love usc and its my first choice, but i'd love to hear more about the program

according to wikipedia, its ranked 10th in the nation. The international relations-global business is 5th in the nation.

I'm a future IR major myself! Woot class of 2011!

lol same i had a hard time deciding btw usc and nyu for IR but i eventually chose usc cuz it actually had a campus..but yeah iono much about the SIR program either..except that it's the 3rd oldest in the nation and prob the best you'll find on the west coast
