<p>I'm stuck in a sticky situation. I was accepted into Pitt's School of Arts and Sciences, and now I realized that I want to major in Nursing. I'm pretty sure the Nursing School is going to be filled up by now, so should I attend Pitt and try to transfer in? I don't know what else I would do! I am interested in Pharmacy and Bioengineering though too, so I do have back up options.</p>
<p>You are probably correct; Pitt’s School of Nursing is almost certainly full. Talk to the SON and your Pitt academic counselor. It is possible to take most (possibly all) the same freshmen classes as those admitted to the SON and then transfer after a semester or two. It’s not easy or guaranteed but the SON does lose some students during the first year and might allow you to transfer. Again, talk to the SON and your Pitt academic counselor before making any decisions.</p>

<p>You might also look at other health care fields at Pitt other than the nursing program.</p>
<p>At many colleges, it has become very hard to transfer into nursing.</p>
<p>Another option is to attend Pitt for 2 years while taking biology, chem, psychology, anatomy, etc. and then transfer to a 2 year nursing program, such as Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.</p>
<p>Thank you for the information! I am going to attend, and after a semester I am going to try to transfer in. If I am not admitted in after one or two semesters, I am not going to waste anymore time, and I am going to go for pharmacy or bioengineering.</p>
<p>I am a nurse and my husband is an OT who graduated from Pitt. Let me assure you, if I knew as a HS grad what I know now, I would have looked into one of the other health care occupations. Check out their school of health and rehab sciences to see if there is anything there that appeals to you. Better money, nicer lifestyle.</p>
<p>I don’t know if it is that easy to transfer into the engineering school from A&S - basically looks like you have to take the freshman engineering curriculum, and for bioE you need a 3.5 gpa and then you can apply to transfer at the end of freshman year.</p>
<p>icebat - I don’t plan on staying in nursing…I am more interested in nurse anesthesia, but I will definitely look into the OT! Thanks for the suggestion.</p>
<p>amandakayak - I have heard that it’s not nearly as hard to switch into engineering as nursing because there isn’t a set number of spaces.</p>

<p>Be aware that you are also going to be somewhat behind in classes, as SSOE has a very strict freshman engineering curriculum (Chem 1 and Chem 2 with lab, Physics 1 and Physics 2 calc based, Calc I and II (or two other semesters of math), and Engineering programming I and II). Lack of some of these classes pushes you back at least a semester.</p>
<p>Thanks for all of this information everyone! I’m going to try to talk to get one of the first pitt starts so I can get all of my classes straightened out and know what will be going on…hopefully that will give me a few more classes to choose from too! I live very close to one of the pitt branch campuses, so if I see that I am going to have to take an extra semester I can easily take classes and transfer them. Thank you again though!</p>
