can anyone tell me anything about the school of social works, im really want to apply there but i dont know if ill get in.
any stats would be greatly appreciated!

kjayson is the only one ever to apply there, ask him

Yes. I can explain to you about the school.

The school is far smaller than the other NYU schools. However this does not mean that it's extremely competitive to get in. The average class size is about 25 students; which means that the SSW admissions committee accepts only about 25 students each year. Again, this does not mean you have no chance. The applicant pool is also much smaller than those of other NYU schools. But you have to keep in mind that because of the limited space, each year's acceptance rate could be different rather dramatically.

If you are interested in social work like me, I strongly recommend you to apply to the school. You do not only need to have good stats but you also need to have extra-curriculars that are related to social work, and you need to have a lot of them. I just want to give you a clear idea of the typical SSW applicant. But I have to admit that I have low stats.

SAT1: 1300 (Math:680, Verbal: 620)
SAT2: Writing 660, Math 1 C 720, World History 740
GPA: 2.4 freshman, 3.2 sophomore, 3.7 junior, 3.633 senior q 1
however I have some good ECs...you can check my stats at other threads.
I have over 1,500 community service hours.

I am still waiting for the decision letter so do not congratulate me yet.
My stats are so low that I might not be offered admission.
Good luck man.

The School of Social Work is very competitive and it's only second to Stern.

I am joking lol.
but don't be ashamed of it!!! :) be proud of your future school. :)

yo kjayson... your stats are not that low-- you should consider the fact that ur gpa has been going up- which made you a possible GSP student. Since they didn't accept you to GSP, I'd remain pretty optimistic :)

Things you do for love. yes, thank you for saying that but I know I am rejected...it's better to believe that.

Seriously, if i am accepted i am willing to recommend just about anyone to apply to that school so that one day the school might become competitive and that I could be proud of my school...:) THE FIRST ED APPLICANT EVER! and hang my portraits on the walls of the school of social work...wait...i don't think they even have SSW school building lolol i am not sure.

apply to SSW!

kjayson7 is your gpa weighted or unweighted, and if you dont mind me asking how many times did u take the sats's.

also thanks for the info really helped me alot im defintly applying rd to school of social work.

unweighted of course.

apply to it, and we will go there together hopefully.

do not think about transfering out to CAS or Stern or Gallatin or w/e after getting into that school.

you can double major. i am considering Economics and Social Work double major or Politics and Social Work or Sociology and Social Work.

good luck man and post your stats

I know this thread hasn't been active for a while, but I'm also applying to the School of Social Work. However, when applying to this school, I didn't realize that it only accepts 25 students. Thanks for the info! Now, I'm petrified at my chances!
