I'm looking for schools that offer good art programs, specifically those that offer programs in the area of costume design. I don't really know how to begin searching for good art schools though. I've looked online for advice on which schools can offer an accredited education in costume design, but all I can find are fashion design schools, which I don't want. Costume design and fashion design are two very different worlds and I suspect the schooling for each is also vastly different. Does anyone know any good schools that fit this criteria? I don't know many people who work in the arts, let alone theatre, which pretty much sucks. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Schools that have strong acting, film, or drama departments often offer an MFA or BFA in costume design. Look at BU, Cal Arts, BU, DePaul, NYU (Tisch MFA). Or just google “BFA costume design”. My H is a costumer . (Film and television) He does not know anyone who actually studied it in college. Most people studied fashion design and/or illustration and went from there.

Okay. That’s definitely helpful. I’ll look into those. (:
