School profile?

My counselor is having trouble figuring out what to put in the school profile, because he isn't familiar with the whole application system.
What needs to be in the school profile (German Gymnasium)?

number of students and faculty?

classes given?

requirements to be admitted at school?

passing requirements?

anything else?

You can google “high school profile” for an example.

Basically, the school profile should help answer two following two questions:

 1. How did you perform relative to your classmates at your school?
 2. How does your school perform relative to the other schools in the country?

Both of these are boring in the German context because everything is standardized, but you have to keep in mind that standards in the US vary wildly.

State that the curriculum is standardized and maybe briefly explain how. (“Students choose 2 from the following advanced courses:”) If you list all of the Leistungskurse your school offers w/o further comments, you might leave the impression that you were lazy when you chose to take only 2 of them. If your teacher happens to have information about the distribution of grades at your school (e.g. the average GPA or what percentage of grades are 1s, 2s, etc), you want to include that in your school report as well.

If your school happens to be more selective than the average Gymnasium, state that. If you happen to have statistics on the post-high school paths of students from previous cohorts, state that too. (“In a typical year, about 90% of our graduates enroll at a university.”)

Will he need to explain the "

It cannot hurt to mention that a Gymnasium caters to the top 20% or so of the teenage population ;)
