Percentiles of SAT’s
Breakdown of AP scores
SAT II averages
Career Plans of previous year’s graduating class
Breakdown of faculty’s degrees

^ Omg, they offer so many honors/AP courses! my school offers like 1/20th that amount of honors/aps

stupid privates

X School is fully accredited [sic], X Religion, preK-12 grade day school serving approximately 330 children of X Religion families in the X City metropolitan area. Its dual curriculum in X Religion and secular studies provides continuity in X Religion life while preparing students for college and careers in all sectors of society. Classes tend to be small and students receive individual attention as they develop academically. Learning center resources are available to students, when needed, to support the classroom experience in both support and enrichment.

The high school academic program provides both X Religion studies and General Studies course work. The basis for calculating a students grade point average for X Religion institutions and for all general purposes of the school is the combination of the X Religion and General Studies average (Not true, they calculate with and without and choose highest GPA). Requirements for graduation from X School include a minimum of

20 credits in X Religion Studies
21 credits in General Studies
English 4 units
Social Studies 3 units
Mathematics 3 units
Science 3 units
Language 4 units
Computer 1 unit (This is not true)
Electives 3 units (They count senior year science, social
studies, and math as electives)
Secular electives can and often include advanced mathematics, physics (not true), chemistry (not true), language arts, social studies and AP [sic] courses when they are offered (That is because those are the ONLY courses offered for senior year; there is no choice of classes in my school, you get what they give you because there is only one class per subject per grade!). Grading is done on a 4.0 scale to determine grade point average. Although a D is a passing grade it may not permit a student to move on to a more advanced level course. As graduating classes tend to number between 10 and 20 students class rank is not designated. At least 40 hours of non-paid community service is an additional requirement for graduation.

X School high school students spend a demanding day at school and are expected to honor religious, community, and family obligation as well. The mission of X School is to guide and enhance the intellectual, spiritual, and social growth of its students and to aid in the preservation of the X Religion identity through attention to tradition, values, and high academic standards.

On the other hand, if your school only offers a few honors or AP classes, colleges won’t penalize you if that’s all you have taken.

If you go to a school like Brophy that offers dozens of such courses and you’ve only taken a few of them, you could be viewed as a “slacker” by some of the most competitive colleges and the GC will certainly not check off “taken most rigorous course load possible.”

trying- the Profile is something your guidance counselor or your college counselor’s office sends to colleges along with an official copy of your transcript and his recommendation letter. It is NOT someting students create or send in.

that’s not what i created. my gc gave that to me and told me that’s what they send to colleges.

so, can i ask my counselor for a copy of our school report? or is it supposed to be private, like the recs? i assume it isnt, but i figured i would ask. i have some awards that i got from my school that i am not sure if i should explain on my app because they might be described on the school report.

Andreaaaaaaa,
Yes, ask if your school’s profile is automatically sent with your transcript. It should be . Any awards YOU have won you should mention in your application.

yeah, but some are specific to our school, and i dont know if i should waste space in the academic honors part explaining what they are. so would it be ok if i had a school report, for my own personal use, and then another one was sent with my transcript?

so is my school’s good or inadequate?

Andreaaaa
It will not be a waste of space on your application to mention any award that YOU were given. Admissions officers are not going to scrutinize a copy of the school profile to see what awards a school gives out, if it is not relevent to the student application they are reviewing. You have to be the one to “toot your own horn”.

trying- you should ask your gc if your HS ranks students- Does your school let colleges you are ranked #1 or #19, etc. or do they let them know which quintile [ top 20%, botton 20% etc.] students with your GPA , SAT’s etc. fall into? Ranking in one form or another is something most colleges WILL ask the GC for, but only about 60% of private HS will provide an actual ranking of the senior class, so you will not be at a disadvantage if your HS does not rank you. That is one thing I see missing from your schools profile. [ My son’s HS specifically mentioned in their profile that they do not rank students, but do provide an quintile % comparision of last year’s senior class]. Another is a specific listing of AP classes offered. Colleges want to know what classes would constitute the "most rigorous course offered " at your HS. The last thing missing is a listing of colleges where prior year’s seniors have matriculated.

well for example, at my school, i got the “scholar award”. to get this, you have to exceed the graduation requirements and take the following:
English: 4 credits
Fine, Visual, or Performing Arts: 1 credit
Foreign Language: 2 credits
Mathematics: 3 credits
Science: 2.5 credits
Social Studies: 3 credits

you also have to take a bunch of specific academic electives and ap classes. you also have to do this specific project for it.

i would have to use up a lot of my characters to describe this award, so i want to know if its on the school report. if it is on the school report, then i wouldnt have to use all this space describing it.

so my question is: can i ask my counselor to see the school report, or is that not proper? thats all i want to know.

Sure, ask your counselor. And you can mention your award on your college applications like this:
School X Scholar Award , 2007
[what ever year you were given the award].

uh oh. that can’t be good. so first of all it also says in my profile that we do not rank b/c class size is so small. if ur like the top two of a class of ten what does that make you? top 20%? sounds kinda ridiculous b/c no.2 in a class of 200 would be top 10%. also, the whole ap/honors situation is weird. ap not so much b/c the ap’s we offer now are pretty much the aps theyve always offered. however, they now, for instance, offer honors bio for grad enine and honors math for grade 10. they didnt have that when i was in thos grades it was just math and just bio. so it will look like i didnt take the most rigorous classes when i actually did. as for where students matriculated, only three out of twenty matriculated to good - really good schools (barnard, u of michigan). does that express that my school is a joke? tahnks for all the responses so far!

So, what you should do is keep a written record of changes in your HS curriculum that affect you, such as those you mentioned above- no honors before and now they offer them- so that your GC can make note of them, if needed, in the recommendation letter he will write for you your Sr year. Ask, or have your parent ask, if the profile can be changed to list the Honors and AP classes your school does offer. Your class size is so small I wouldn’t worry about ranking.

here’s a thread listing many, many links to school profiles:

and what about the college matriculation issue?

Don’t worry about something you have no control over. Just be sure you let the colleges you are interested in know it. Show the love to both your “safety”, and “first choice” college.
