hey all- as an ED applicant to the college, and with the decision day fast approaching, i've been really thinking hard about my chances.

I've found out all the information that I could from my friends, and it seems that 9 people are applying to Penn ED from my school (approx 275 from my grade). 7 of them are applying ot the college, 1 to SEAS, 1 to Wharton.

Of the kids applying to the college, almost all of us are VERY qualified (i'm including myself in this). Do you think they would take, lets say, 4 out of the 7 kids that applied to the college if all of us were qualified? For hte past couple of years, they have accepted about 2 kids early (but only like 4 have applied early in the past couple of years) per year. It would really really suck to be penalized b/c there are just too many kids applyihng from my school on a given year. any thoughts?

that's all i can think of now- my essays were solid but not incredible.

I am only a junior but it seems that in my school next year there will be the same thing. Every year from my ridiculously competitive NJ feeder school about 20 kids apply early and about 5 get in on average. In your case I would say that they would only accept about two or three kids.

yeah dude, sorry to tell yah im from LI as well, 6 kids to college early, two to wharton, two to seas, and there are about 3 kids including me who have done independent research, around the same sat, and sat ii, I mean you didn't put your rank, so if you're like top 5 than you're better, but i mean everyone has nice ec's. Anyway good luck to you. Out of curiosity what town are you from? I'm from Port Washington

this is kind of annoying b/c i Penn thinks im qualified, it shouldnt matter how many kids physically apply to the school that SPECIFIC year. whatever.

tennisjump-our school doesn't rank, but i would have to say im definitely in the top 10%, probably top 5. since you're from li too, you know how it is here. the competitive environment and all. are you applying to the college?
good luck man.

brownieboy: the one factor you are not mentioning is whether any of those applying early are "legacies", "developmental admits". etc...that will definitely affect who gets the admit......(if you are from Jericho, Great Neck, or Roslyn from what I hear, good luck.. many legacies and developmental $$$$$)

A developmental admit is one who donates lots of $$$$ to the school, whether legacy or not.....like hedge fund people (even if they attended a different school)....Good luck next week! Hopefully you'll hear good news!

I have not been on the boards since I started here at Penn, but I did want to say that, in my graduating class, 5 people applied to Penn, and 5 were accepted. Only 3 of us decided to attend.

I did find out one thing that Penn does with decisions...they do some kind of theme for each year of recruiting, and this years theme is "making history". I don't know what next years will be, but I know that my acceptance to Penn was in the spirit of the "Theme".

I am currently the youngest student at Penn and am the youngest to ever be accepted into Penn Engineering. Risky, but it payed off. I also advise duel degreeing...a lot of the students are double majors here.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer.

hey bexline-
what do you mean by a theme for recruiting students? i'm assuming this does not apply to normal applicants (early or regualr decision), just people who are recruited, right?

in terms of your experience at penn......how do you like it?

yes could you please elaborate on the "theme". especially "making history". what does that mean and who does it apply to (the whole class of 2012? just the athletes?)

As a current Penn student who has a work-study job in the admissions office, I can tell you that last year's (class of 2011 - my year) theme was "Best of both worlds."

If you wanna know more about last year's theme or this year's ("making history") I'd be happy to elaborate like bexline did.
