So I just learned that my school ranks but it doesn't weight our GPAs. The ranking is based solely upon your average, and the rigor of your schedule is ignored. I was wondering how college admission officers would be able to differentiate the students who took not as hard classes but rank high compared to the students who challenged themselves but rank low.

Have the GC address the issue in the GC recommendation.

My school does it this way too. It works out because people who won’t take honors classes usually don’t bother getting very good grades either. If you’re applying to top schools, you should be able to get a high class rank no matter what system they use. A person with straight As in advanced classes should have a high rank no matter what. If you’re getting a lot of Bs you’re probably not going to be as competitive anyway, even if you’re in advanced classes.
The method for calculating class rank will probably be explained in your school profile, though.

I’m in the same situation! I have been told that it is addressed in the stuff your GC fills out for your app.
