Planning on majoring in accounting and/or finance. The schools I'm currently planning on applying to are Notre Dame, UMichigan, Columbia, NYU, and UMCP. I'm especially in need of more safeties right now.

If you live in Maryland, UMCP is a safety school for you. Even if you're out-of-state, you're probably going to get in. You might even get invited into the honors program.

I just recently visited NYU and Columbia and found that Columbia does NOT have a major in accounting/finance. Nevertheless, my family members all insist on me at least going for it and relying on the prestige factor.

business and safties... hmmm. UMD is a safety for you. here is the stats on the honor students of 2010

The 2,536 students admitted to the University Honors program have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.26 and the middle 50% scored between 1350-1480 on the SAT and between 30-33 on the ACT.

Stats seem in line for honors. Now UIUC has a good accounting program. Indiana and UF both have good accounting programs and could be possible safties. You may also want to apply to wake forest which is a bit more prestigous than IU or UF overall. IU is top ten in both accounting and finance and is a garanteed safety for you. Its worth applying to.

You might look at Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. It has a business program. You might get aid. If you are willing to go to Boston, Bentley is good for accounting and business. These are safeties- may not be what you really want.

What type of career do you plan on pursuing? If you desire a public accounting career, I strongly encourage you to pursue a school with an accounting degree... prestige doesn't qualify you to sit for the CPA exam, in other words.

Indiana is a safety and you will be hard pressed to find a school better in Finance and Accounting. Look into Kelley Scholars and Wells Scholars, both full ride oppurtunities.

Some great suggestions these are. I'll be sure to looking into these schools. But what about matches and reaches? And could anybody speculate about whether my current list of schools are more matches or reaches?
