Mine is mostly fine, I think. I don’t have a problem with it.

At my community college it was awful though. The system was so overloaded that it took HOURS just to get in, and then you had to refresh the page constantly because it kept crashing. I think my record was ten hours to register for four classes. One of those times it was storming and the tornado siren came on, so my parents were trying to get me to go into the basement with them, and I could be heard yelling, “I DON’T CARE IF I BLOW AWAY, IT’S BEEN SIX HOURS AND I AM NOT GETTING LOGGED OUT FOR INACTIVITY BEFORE I AM FINISHED.”

Um, it’s a little annoying. But that’s mostly because I’m a freshman, and we have to go last, so it’s a rush for 1400 students to get the last few spots in each class.

One of the things that annoys me though is that there’s a credit limit (below maximum and overload) that you can register for in the initial registration. And for some reason, they’re considering lowering that even more.

In other words, to get into the classes I have to get into for my double major, I end up having to secure overrides because I can only register for like, 16 credits. It’s mildly annoying and rather worrisome considering that in order to graduate on time with my double major, I have to take 5 classes (17-18 credits) every semester.

I mean, I’m sure it’ll get better once I’m not a freshman anymore (so, next Fall), but it’s pretty rough on freshman. We end up with the worst professors, the worst times, the worst pretty much everything.

And the lag is awful. You can sit there and be cruising the registration Banner program up to the second registration starts as fast as possible. But the second it hits the registration period, the entire site slows to a crawl. It’s better than it used to be (or so I’ve heard), but it’s still pretty bad.

Lastly, the Wait Lists are confusing, and it’s hard to decipher how Cross-listed classes pan out in terms of actual class size. The system isn’t very clean looking. It’s easy to get lost in the side by side numbers all squished into the same small space. But that’s more of a design problem than an actual registration problem.

Anyway, I’m sure I don’t have the worst registration system around. I give mine a solid “Meh, s’okay.”

I thought getting into courses when I was a senior would be easier but it isn’t really, it seems there are much fewer classes I can take now. A lot of the lower division classes are restricted to freshman and sophomores only, and a lot of the upper division classes are restricted to students in the major-- so I get into courses in my major pretty okay even though comparatively speaking there are relatively few courses, but that’s it.

Like for example, I am completely barred from taking a course in the communications department. I can’t take the prereqs because those classes are restricted to underclassmen, and I can’t take the upper level classes because I don’t have the prereqs.

For a school where 2/3 of your degree is general ed and distribution requirements, that’s a huge pain!
