My counselor forgot to put a signature or stamp on the envelop seal (it's just a sealed envelope with the school report inside,no stamp or signature). Is this acceptable for Harvard?coz my counselor left for vacation already...

Well, a signature might not be a HUGE deal, but most mail I know has trouble going places without a stamp...

What 85397 means is a stamp of the school's address or whatever else (my school uses a stamp that says "This is a certified document") on the sealed flap of the envelope to mean that the school report has come straight from the counsellor and hasn't been tampered with by the applicant. Some people sign on the flap, instead--my teachers signed on the flap for my recommendations.

If the documents inside have been stamped, you should be fine. My own school stamps everything--the school report, every page of the transcript, and even the letter of recommendation from the GC. If yours is a school that only stamps the envelope, then what you should do is include a note telling the admissions officers that they are free to call up your school to verifiy your school report. They'll do that regardless of your note, but including the note makes you seem that much more honest.

Thanks so much for the meticulous response Ginny:)
