Hello, I am in 8 grade looking to go away in 10 grade. I want to be in the new England area.
I have all A's and on B+
I'm taking all honors next year
Always on the honor roll
I'm on the leadership committee for my school
I play soccer, ski race (3rd for Maine states), play hockey, play tennis and lacrosse, and I sail competitively in the summers.
I think I could get pretty good teacher recs.
I volunteered for two past summers at our local yacht club teaching kids how to sail.
Could you please give me about 10 schools you think would be reasonable for me?
Thanks!

@skiracer: Decisions for Fall 2011 just came out. You have plenty of time to request info from schools, visit websites, etc.

I would advise you to spend some time kicking around the forum reading various threads so you have a better idea of what schools might suit your interests. If you have a lot of time, the St. Paul’s thread started by Winterset is particularly long and full of information. If sailing is truly important to you, I think St. George’s warrants a look.

Boardingschoolreview.com is a great resource!
What size school are you looking for?
Coed or single sex?
Where?

I want a coed school with about 300 students, give or take. And I have many family members who went to st georges

If you look through the wait list and rejection oriented threads you will observe that some incredibly well qualified kids do not get accepted to top schools. Meanwhile, some kids with somewhat less spectacular statistics are accepted. A word you will hear repeated is FIT. Your job in assessing schools should be to take stock of yourself and ask the questions, “what am I really passionate about?” and “what am I really good at?” There are plenty of kids who do a bit of this or a bit of that. Rank your skills and passions then see which schools really emphasize those things. Remember, you will live there for three years!

Your grades are very good, perhaps on the high side for Proctor, but it does boast its own ski slope and even has a varsity ski jumping team. My son went there (now plays D1 lax) and for his winter sport he chose freestyle skiing.
He loved it. For sailing, you have to take a look at Tabor. I think both have hockey teams (I know Proctor does).

Thank you! What do you think my chances are at st georges? Or middlesex? How bout Milton? Or Taft? Brooks?

By the way. My sister goes to holderness, both my mom and dad went to st georges along with all of their siblings. My great uncle went to middlesex and my dad was the hockey coach at middlesex when he first got out of college. Just in case that helps!
