Hey guys. I'm a prospective student for Dartmouth, class of 2014. I'm hoping to be admitted during regular decision. Can any current students tell me how spirited the community is at Dartmouth? Like what's the attendance at sporting events on campus?

I know Dartmouth is a pretty close-knit community with a lot of tradition, but I've heard in random places that you're bound to find the football stadium empty more often than not, and other stuff in that vein.

So anyone who has any relevant information (doesn't just have to be limited to sports on campus), please enlighten me!

Dartmouth has more school spirit than any school I can think of - big weekends, lots of “Dartmouth” love, etc. Its just not focused around sports. More around events.

I’d agree with slipper. We have huge amounts of school spirit, just not based off of stellar athletic programs (like some big D1 schools) A big plus to this though is that even when our teams have a (or several) bad season(s), everyone still loves Dartmouth the same as before!

Hey guys, thanks for your insight. I know Dartmouth is pretty famous for being chock full of community spirit.

I guess my only concern is just so long as people have spirit despite lackluster sports teams (I was looking up some Dartmouth lacrosse highlights, and there weren’t too many compared to several of the other teams I follow).

School spirit is pretty big for me, but just so long as people enjoy the games, community, etc. it makes no difference. My current school that I attend has little-to-no school spirit and I’m really looking forward to a school on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the responses! Of course, if anyone else has some insight, it’d be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet for a school-spirit-filled sporting event is men’s ice hockey. If you don’t like hockey, try to get into it. It’s the only sport people from all over the Upper Valley come to support. Big conference games (Cornell, Princeton, Harvard) are usually pretty great.
