Anyone know if this is a fun and social campus? Does everyone attend games, etc? Does it turn into a ghost town on weekends? I'm from OOS and wouldn't know anyone.

DS is a junior. Loyola is definitely a residential school and not a suitcase school as most students stay in campus housing all 4 years and they do stay on campus for weekends. Kids tend to go to local bars or to parties off campus as drinking is not permitted on campus. (However, 21 year olds can keep a limited amount of alcohol in their rooms.) Sports have become bigger the last few years as the mens lacrosse team won the D1 national championship and the mens basketball team made the NCAA D1 tournament last year.

My D is a soph there. It is not a suitcase school but there is an awful lot of drinking going on, at bars & yes, they are sneaking it in their rooms too (at what campus are they not?). She is disgusted with all the drinking–an awful lot of it is bingeing, not just 2-3 beers while watching a game.

That said, you can & will find friends. There are lots of really nice people there, inlcuding most of the heavy drinkers. The campus does try to have things to do on weekends that are not focused on alcohol but imo there are not enough. They are working hard to change that, though, and if you can get together a group of friends who want to start an activity or club or whatever, they will support you.

My D does not go to games but that is her taste; I think she is planning to get out to a few with her roommates. She carries a heavy course load & she uses most weekend days for homework (no interruptions).

My son is very outgoing and social. He is a junior this year and loves Loyola. I’m not going to lie, he and his friends go out to bars on weekends. It is not a commuter school and the campus is full on weekends. After visiting friends at schools with a more lenient drinking on campus policy, he says he would rather go out than deal with the vomit (and worse) on campus. He is never bored and has made some great friends. He’s in the business school and has a great internship this summer. Also, he went in with another major in mind and was able to switch to business. As a parent, this is a huge consideration! It is a fantastic school and a very wise choice.
