When you get to grad school, are people still enthusiastic about their school/sports? Or is that more of an undergrad thing?

I'm thinking of going to a school that has admittedly little school spirit/unity (but is a great school nonetheless), so I was wondering if I'd have the chance to get the school spirit in grad school.

God I hope so. I go to a small state school right now, which has a decent amount of school spirit but not a ton. I'm hoping to got o a big football/basketball school for grad, so that I can take a break from studying and go crazy at a football game!

If you went to undergrad at a school with a lot of school spirit (say where football is a big deal) then you'll likely stay really tied to your alma mater regardless of where you transfer to for grad school. (or at least that's how I would be).

If you're undergrad was kind of lacking, but you end up at a big time sports school then it's probably pretty likely that you can "latch" on, and legitimately become a big fan. It might depend on what program you are in though and the types of people your colleagues are. If there are a couple of big time fans that love going to games, they'll probably love to take you along and show you a great time. (That's how it's been with me and a few of my friends who went to places like SLU and Pepperdine, I've taken them to several football games at the UG - my alma mater - affiliated with our medical school this year and really enjoyed doing so). If there aren't any huge fans, then you'll kind of have to figure it out on your own. However, it's likely that if the school is really into a particular sport, that departments and programs will have social functions surrounding games and what not.

If you go from one school to another with "poor" school spirit, then good luck...don't know what to tell you.

At my school, it seems like the grad students aren't necessarily that spirited, just because there are a lot of organizations only open to undergrads, even though most of them went here as undergrads anyway. But we're really not too big on sports (like all we have is soccer, vollyball, basketball, wrestling, and rowing, I think) but our organizations are where the spirit comes from, especially Greek life. But I think everyone loves the school anyway, because we're all a really tight-knit community, except for the law students.
