I was wondering how school spirit is at mcgill. Do students care about sports and show up and cheer at games? How's the support for football?

People don’t come to McGill for the football games (besides, the climate doesn’t support outdoor football for most of the school year). College sports in Canada are nowhere near as big as in the US. I’ll bet you most McGill students couldn’t even tell you the football team’s name.

I agree with blobuf. Athletics is not the rallying point at Canadian schools like it is at many American schools. Hockey isn’t even as popular as you might expect. At least McGill has a football team. Some New England schools abolished football in recent years: University of Vermont, Northeastern University and Boston University come to mind.

While McGill football fans are a small minority, if you go to the games it could be a way of meeting like minded students and a way to develop a circle of friends. The CFL Alouettes play at McGill’s Molson Stadium to sell out crowds by the way.

Obviously I’m not considering mcgill for the sports teams, I was just wondering if students ever rally together (besides to protest)
