Why does everyone care so much about school spirit. I could care less about my school's sports teams.

It isn't just the sports team. I am proud to be a student at my school, but the athletics isn't even the main thing. It was my dream school, and now that I am there, it makes me very proud. It can be anything about the school.

The main difference between high school and college in terms of school spirit is that you chose the college you go to. In high school, you went to the school that was in the town you lived in, so it is hard to really feel that great about it.

My school spirit goes beyond my university but also my school. I believe that the engineerin school is better than any of the other schools. None of the other schools have the camaraderie that we do. A girl assumed that I knew a guy because he was in computer engineering, but I did know him before knowing his major. Plus our football is just all right and we will not talk about basketball.

You could care less?

its not just in sports, but in the overall feeling of the school. school spirit means that you are proud that you go to your school and there is a wonderful sense of community.

"My school spirit goes beyond my university but also my school. I believe that the engineerin school is better than any of the other schools. None of the other schools have the camaraderie that we do."

The college of arts and sciences is better than the E-school.

Taking pride in your school helps other people on campus, creates a mroe positive image of yourselves and it shows others that you love your school and are going to defend its honor, whether it be sports or academics. School spirit is pretty awesome to say the least.

I love watching football, and I'm a girl. But anyway our high school football pretty much sucks, but we have the biggest school spirit ever. It's crazy, homecoming is psychotic.. so many people dress up, we just go all out, decorate the hallways, tailgate, a bonfire, a dance, it's just a lot of fun. It's really fun having a lot of school spirit, last year we won our Homecoming game, and everyone went wild. We had fireworks and everything.

I respect my school as an academic institution. But I don't understand why I should care about my schools' athletic teams and I don't see what the fuss is about.

But the point is that you can school spirit for the academics then if you like. If you don't like athletics, fine. I'm not big on sports at all either (except maybe baseball).

My school has elite acadmics and elite athletics =) and I won't lie that ACC athletics weren't a big part of my decision!

athletics is a big part of school spirit. If you notice, schools with great sports team usually have an extremely loyal student body. School spirit correlates to alumni connection, which is very important for getting jobs and interviews. That being said, i want to go to a college where people want to be here.

I agree with the hobo, sports are huge with the college experience. Just take a school like UConn for example, they were nothing until their basketball teams started winning, now they are one of the fastest growing colleges in the country. I'm not going to lie, sports were a factor in my decision for my school, and school spirit is huge. I would hate to go to a school where people just go there and don't really like the school, you need to love where u are and thats school spirit.

school spirit is the reason why there are huge alumni programs for some schools.

he's right, how can you care less for something you don't care about?

I try not to. School spirit is a pretty dumb thing to have in my opinion.

Then don't expect much help from alums come job time.

I think it's slightly different up in Canada. Sports are a big enough deal for anyone to care. I'm cool with just meeting up with some of the clubs I'm in and mingling with my buddies.
