Letters of Recommendation: will all be good. One teacher is also a leader for my youth group and can comment on my faith and character as well as academics (has written me a letter of rec before and it was great). Another great one from the cordinator of MSC program who I had for math. Asking a couple of other teachers so I can pick the best ones. Councilors will probably be okay. she knows my ability but has never been overly fond of me. I don't think she will write something intentionally bad though.

I was originally looking at a smaller schools, so I don't know a ton about schools out of state. I have talked to various admissions counsilors at smaller schools who say that I am pretty much in. Out of the smaller schools, my top choices are Grand Valley State and Hope. I am possibly looking at Wayne State if I can get into the MedStart program. I am also going to apply to U of Michigan...just about everyone from my MSC program goes there.
I have just recently begun looking at bigger schools, and was wondering what type of schools I mght have a good chance of getting into.

I think I am forgeting some stuff, but that's it for now. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks for any and all of the help!

I think you can shoot much higher. Do you have interest in tech schools? How far away from home are you willing to go? As an URM Female interested in science/math with a strong GPA, strong ACT your options are rather limitless.

I am really open to going anywhere. Do you have any specific suggestions?

I definitely agree with teenage_cliche, even HYPSM would be relatively accessible to you.

^That would be cool.

A big reason I was looking at smaller schools is that I have a chance of playing Division II or III soccer. More recently, especially with my knee injury, I have begun to consider if I want to continue playing at such a competitive level since I would be risking re injurying the knee. I am starting to think more about just playing intermurals or possibly club soccer at a bigger school, but since I have been focusing on the smaller schools, I don’t know where to start.

Thanks so far! Anyone else? :)

Definitely shoot for all the Ivies because you’ve basically got a pretty good access to all of them. Also, try Duke or John Jopkins or Carnegie Mellon if you’re interested in math or pre-med.

^ Thanks! I will definately look into some of those schools!

Yeah I was thinking of majoring in math and then minoring in bio. I want to be a doctor, but I also like math. It is a complicated long story of why I want to major in math and then go on to medical school, but since you already read my super long post, I will just leave it at that.

You should try for some of the Ivies. Cornell has 10,000+ undergrads so I’m not sure if that’s too “big” a school for you.

How small a school are you hoping for?

If you want to take the premed route, try Johns Hopkins University. It’s a reasonably sized school which has around 4,000-5,000 undergrads.

Your stats look great. Good luck!!

chance me? :]

Thanks for the suggestions!

I don’t really care so much if it is a small school anymore. I would prefere it, but that isn’t one of my main deciding factors. (I mean U of Michigan has 25,000 students, which may be a bit much, but it still isn’t out of the question)

Thanks again!

i agree with the people above me. you should still apply to the smaller schools just incase you change your mind but definitely apply to the ivies. your stats are great!
if you raise your SAT scores you would have a great chance of getting into the ivies. you should probably take the SAT Subject Tests in math and science.
and definitely apply to Johns Hopkins because that school is great for premed and Math & Science majors. i know of a few people who went there and later became extremely successful surgeons, etc.

Your stats would normally be average-above average for say a male ORM. But the fact that you are a female URM AND interested in math and science really pushes your application to be level with many ivy league applicants. Definitely try for some ivys if you are even slightly interested, and UMich and Grand Valley are almost guaranteed I believe.

Chance me back? Thanks!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/718159-chances-community-college.html</a></p>

Look at

Carniege Mellon University
Johns Hopkins University
Cornell University
Case Western Reserve University
MIT
CIT
Rice University

I wouldn’t concern yourself with raising your SAT score, not when you have that 34 ACT. That alone, combined with your URM status, will get you into very top schools.

I think your strong ACT, fine GPA, and URM status will get you into amazing schools. I would look at the colleges that country day stated. Also, perhaps look at Georgia Tech, Stanford, Columbia, etc.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/722896-chances-great-engineering-schools.html</a></p>

yeah i think you can really aim high here. your EC’s are very impressive and your grades and SAT’s are good enough. plus your ethnicity helps A LOT.
Go for Ivys.

Thanks a lot everyone! I just have a quick question…If I decide to apply to the Ivys, do you reccomend that I retake the SAT to try and get a more impressive score?

Oh. I also have one more new thing to add…Today I was elected NHS Treasurer.

Anyone else on this one? I would also like to have an answer to my above question.

Thanks again everyone! :)

you could if you wanted. To tell you the truth, your ACT score is very impressive and would imply that you would do better on another SAT. I say go for it, and if it doesn’t work out then send only the ACT.
Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/georgetown-university/719824-chance-me-i-will-love-you-forever.html</a></p>

I think you’re in at least 1 HYPSM, and I think MIT would be especially good because of your interests. You’re probably in at Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon. Great stats!!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/724266-please-chance-me-stanford-others.html</a> thanks!

Thanks! I might retake the SAT in the fall if I can find an available date. Depending on the schools I’m applying to I may need to use the October date to take SAT II so I would have to wait for a later date. hmmm…I guess I’ll just see how my schedule and my plans go before then and decide if I want to take it again.

Any more input?
