School supplies 2012-2013 ("-_- groan....)

Last year I had one “big” binder (like two inches) that I kept most stuff in. It had spare NB paper, current assignments and papers, and tabs for like the current unit of information for most classes. I kept older stuff organized at home in file folders, which I went through periodically (because while old tests may be helpful for the final, a busywork worksheet or rough draft of a paper probably won’t). For some classes, I also had a notebook for general notetaking, but most of the time I wrote on loose-leaf paper so I could move it to the binder or put it with handouts. AND, I always carried my art workbook, planner, and separate pencil bag.

I’m very anal retentive when it comes to school stuff :)

Last year, I kept one 5 subject spiral notebook for all of my notes, some loose leaf paper for homework (math teacher required wide rule), and a separate Mead Notebinder for every subject. There is something about the notebinders that keeps me organized, but I don’t know what. Second semester, I tried to use regular three rings and I lasted about a week. It was a disaster. My math teacher required us to keep all of our homework in our binder, because she would do accuracy checks at random times. -_- I love colorcoding my notes, it brings a little fun to taking notes. OH and my planner. Never forget the planner.

@sshsdancer97 I HATE THOSE CHECKS!! I ALWAYS FAILED THEM EVEN IF I DID WELL IN THAT PARTICULAR CLASS!!! >[

@awesomeirl ME TOOOOOOO OMGOMGOMG My teacher would take random completion checks and random accuracy checks, instead of just taking up our work. If I remember correctly, my average for accuracy checks was a 32 at one point… hahahahahha, I still came out with an A, though!

Ugh, binders. I hate the thought of them. Reminds me of middle school when they tell you what you need for each class.

I just get one folder and one notebook per class.

sometimes, you can stash papers from a class in that classes notebook. and then you don’t need folders. or even just put them in the backpack itself, if it has a sleeve for a laptop or something like that.

this thread has reminded me to buy some notebooks for this year, and maybe some pens.

I’m getting my new backpack in the mail today (I feel like such a kid whenever I say that :p). It’s the Jansport Right pack and I hope it hopes up longer than my old one. It better because I paid 20 extra for that bag!! xD

And YESS!! My supplies are super color coded and equal. Like last year I had all spiral notebooks, this year, it’s probably be composition because I have a lot of those and I need to use it up before I go to college.

I’ve decided that Math will be BLUE. History will be YELLOW. English will be GREEN. Anatomy will be RED. French will be using my last year french notebook. And piano, I think I’ll pick purpleee. (:

What do you advise with binder per class. 1/ 1.5 / or 2 inches (ARG!! I’M SPAZZING OUT!!)
My school should be criminally charged for the amount of trees they killed, we get 90% of our notes on sheets…meaning we have to get binders

I like the idea of color coding, but I don’t do it. LOL!! I have a binder or notebook for each class. Then, I have a folder that has multiple folders. If you go to Office Depot, you can get a folder with 4-6 folders in it. That way, each folder can be for a subject. It really helps!!!

I sometimes colorcode, but apparently I’m somewhat synesthetic (not officially diagnosed or anything, just my sister’s accusations) and certain subjects have to be certain colors. To me, math must be blue. Anything else is ridiculous. One of my many quirks :)

Sr. Year. Finally to the point of no college prep classes, no binder checks
I use one binder with a zipper and pack the papers without the ring so it is much easier to remove and slip in. Generally the math and science (no science this year) are behind one of the summer work papers in the back, the rest is just put in the time I get them in front and move back as they get less important… Occasionally I have removing runs.

No lockers so I carry the things I need each day…

Other than that, I fetch binder paper, non-spiral NBs for notes, and the annual pen supply.

I can’t believe how little everyone on here buys! I buy a 2 or 2 and a half inch binder for each class and enough tabs to organize by chapter… I also HATE notebooks (loose leaf means you can more easily remove/add and put in worksheets) I also have like 3/4 pencil cases, one for pens and pencils, one for highlighters, one for scissors, glue, etc., and one for markers. I am actually quite organized when it comes to school!

Oh, and I totally color coordinate but I do it by period and in the rainbow. Like period 1 is red and period two is orange and so on… I organize my locker that way too so it looks really pretty haha. But I guess I’m lucky because I go to a small school so I can go to my locker before every class.

My school has lockers, but they aren’t used. Isn’t that weird? I think they should just tear them down so the hallways can be bigger.

I couldn’t possibly carry all my stuff from my classes the entire day. I’d have like 6 textbooks.

My teachers give me a textbook to keep at home and they have a class set in the classroom.

Sigh how do people know what they need a few weeks prior to schools when they only tell us what we need ONCE we arrive in their classroom.

Many teachers post their syllabus on their website.

I have 3 classes in HS this year. The other 3 will be at the local college. I have no clue what I’ll need for those so I just bought what I’d need for the 3 I have in school. I got a 2" binder for AP Lit, and 2 1" binders for Calc and AP Gov. I got 16 tabs and 3 packs of lined paper. I also got highlighters, pens, pencils, and a pencil pouch. I did it all based on what others have said about the classes.

I’ll probably need more when school starts, but at least I got a good majority of stuff before the crowds.

The only thing I KNOW I need is a graphing calculator and some pencils and notebooks.

Hmm, what am I buying this year?

Two 5-subject notebooks.

Lucky pen ink

…er, I don’t think I need anything else. If I end up caving in to my Spanish teacher’s requests for a binder (which I didn’t end up buying for his class last year and did just fine, if nothing else I was more organized than everyone else), add in a 1-inch binder and portable hole punch. I hate the little paper bits that get stuck or fall on the floor, though.

Otherwise, yeah, i’m set. Reusing supplies is key, my organizer is going to last me a lot longer because I take good care of it.

The other key is finding the system that works for you. Everyone I know uses binders, I think they’re horrible so I don’t use them. I have my own unique system that nobody else would understand, but it works perfectly for me.
