School Supplies: What to Buy

Okay, I'm still in High School mode here when I think of school supplies but my mom has been bugging me about what to buy and I'm actually not sure.
I go to a private high school and we really got spoon fed when during the summer we got a list of exactly what was needed for each course.
Besides the obvious pencils, pens etc., should I bring binders, notebooks or both. What do most students use?
Anything else that may not be so obvious? Anything special I would need for engineering?
Thanks!

Besides the obvious all you really need is a low powered computer and a graphing calculator. I've actually found I use my calculator less and less as time goes by. As for binders and notebooks it's about evenly split.

you also should buy a crappy calculator because they will not allow you to talk prelims using graphing calcs

i used notebooks my first year with perforated sheets of paper because you will not be turning in much of the stuff that you write. using a notebook is less messy and bulky

what are sum advantages/disadvantages of using those spiral bound things versus other(like binder, regular loose sheets on a clipboard...etc?)

im really bugged by this cuz i know space to write on is limited..what do u current cornellians do/use..or think u will 09ers?

I've always used binders, but because of the limited space on the desks and the fact that there will be more notes than handouts probably, I'm leaning toward notebooks.

I'd like to hear what more currents students have to say regarding this issue. Whatever the case, this can be taken care of at any time right at the school, so it's not urgent.

i would recommend just attending the first lectures with a notebook, a cheap one mind you.

Then if it seems like the professor gives out alot of handouts then definitely get a binder, if not then get a notebook.

I personally like notebooks better than binders.

Thanks for your input! Didn't know about not allowing a graphing calculator during prelims. Looks like I'll be buying notebooks. I really want to get as much as possible ahead of time because I'm sure it gets pretty crazy at school with everyone scrambling to get last minute things. Again, thanks!

wow how far do you live from cornell?

ne others on the binder/notebook issue?? do u use OTHER devices? i wont like notebooks for studying purposes at all, sure teh copying is excellent..but when it comes to reading those notes later...i hate to NOT be able to move different pages around, take one out for the road or wutever, and hate flipping the page back and forth over and over to study wuts ont he back, its terrible, lol, i waste so much paper, but at school i just use ONE side...and its perfect...my only concern is the space/lugging around the binders give u.

maybe get one of those spiral bound...write on one side..and rip it out after class and put into a binder??

how often do u need previous days notes during a lecture? rarely ever? frequently? thanks for ur input in advance
