Mmmm. School supplies. My list this year was incredibly small. I stood in the aisles at WalMart for an extra 5-10 minutes thinking... Why do I have so little stuff in my arms??? Where is the "entire shopping cart filled with supplies" feeling? Ach!
I got:
2 3-subject FiveStar notebooks
1 1-subject FiveStar notebook
4 glossy, plastic folders so they don't rip
Bic mechanical pencils (quantity over quality)
Gel-point pens (love these, they kick the butt of ballpoint)
A binder-pouch for my locker to keep pens and pencils in it and not floating through the locker willy-nilly
And... that's it. I have a calculator (a much better one than the schools, even) and a ruler, and that's it. For 9th grade, there is (obviously) no supplies list from teachers.
I changed my organization system dramatically, too. I began to hate my old binder-loose leaf paper method by the end of last year, and so I'm starting to have a notebook for my classes and a folder for each class, plus a folder that goes to every class for school-wide handouts (we get these in homeroom, I don't need a "homeroom binder" haha) and homework, so I don't forget to bring a certain paper or homework assignment home. Hopefully this works, because I hate binders. Rawr.

^I'm beginning to hate handouts. My school always has paper shortages at certain points in the year, but they're printing 2000ish sheets almost weekly for handouts that end up in the trash (no paper recycling in sight!) before school ends. I always carry around the ones from teachers though thinking they'll be important some day. I can't tell you how many teachers I've had just run off 20 copies of something random from the Internet for us "just because".

God our 7th grade spanish teacher made 20+ page copies of "culture readings" for the class of 20+ kids... That's over 400 pages! And then she would just say... no, you can keep them if you like, I have more!
What. The Crap.

^My 7th grade history teacher did the same thing. Only she never figured out how to use the stapler on the copy machine, so they were always stapled in the bottom left corner. That makes huge packets a joy to read.

Have any of you ever tried to go to Wal-Mart the weekend before school starts in your area? It's just hilarious. There are all these kids running around and screaming, and their mothers are trying to keep them under control while they buy supplies. Then, people just stand in the aisles to look for supplies, and you can't walk down any of them. I suggested to my mom that we go this year with a big group of people and just stand in the middle of the aisles with our carts and talk. That's quality entertainment right there.

I already have my backpack. It's a Swissgear :)

I think I'll just get some

College-ruled loose leaf paper
Spiral notebooks (only $0.10 at Walmart)
1.5" notebooks
Dividers

I'll also need to redo my wardrobe. I have so many clothes that I haven't donated to charity in the last 3 years that I probably have enough to get my parents the biggest tax break ever.

Pilot EasyTouch Fine point pens.
BEST PENS EVER

I love trying out new pens and picking favorites :]

I need a new laptop, or get my current one fixed. It can't run on battery anymore because I tripped on the cord. Now it only works with AC power.

^ lol

I love shopping for school supplies!

ball point pens(black,blue,and red)
white-outs
loose leaf papers
binders (1"-1.5")
highlighters
post-its
lead,pencils..
legal pads
notebooks
dividers

whoa that is one long list. I always shop for new stuff every year! I have tons of stuff I didn't use from last year, but shopping is fun :P

My school actually released a list based on class/teacher (since they all want something different). So far, I'll have to get:
English: marble notebook; pocket dictionary; 3-subject notebook with perforated pages and folders included; highlighters.
Math: 5-subject notebook; pens, pencils and erasers (colored pencils would be useful for certain topics); loose-leaf paper and graph paper; ruler or straightedge; graphing calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84+)

I suppose I'll have to add a few notebooks to the list, book covers, ect. I wonder when the other teachers will decide to make up their lists.

^I have no use for those things they call dictionaries. If I don't know the definition, I invent one. If I can't think of a word to use, I invent that too. But seriously. Do you use dictionaries that much that the school would require you to have one? All of my English classes have always had maybe 5 dictionaries in the room, and we use them maybe a few times each year. That just seems like a waste to require students to have their own.

I also hate it when teachers invent some elaborate organization system that they expect their students to use. My science teachers always want 3-ring binders with tabs and title pages and the works. They also made us buy tabs to put into our notebooks. That stuff is just a waste of my time, my money, and my effort. I can organize myself, thank you. I didn't get my 4.0 by listening to what the teachers say. I've tried multiple different types of organization, and I like mine best.

Usually my teachers give out their lists on the first day of school.

One of those file divider thingys
Marker pens
Ballpoint pens: blue, black red
Tab dividers
Binders (haven't gotten n e yt!)
Backpack
Pencil Case
Index cards (haven't bought n e yt!)
Paper
etc...

"Do you use dictionaries that much that the school would require you to have one?"

I've never used a dictionary in an English class. The English department actaully keeps a huge dictionary in one of the classes. Perhaps it's because the teacher who made up that supply list is new...

Interestingly enough, my history classes have always used the dictionary more than any other class, both years. We just happen to come across words that have a debatable meaning, apparently...

::applause::

Almost every year there is one or two teachers that try to force their silly mandatory organization system down our throats. Some have even gone as far as doing notebook/binder/folder checks or whatever in the first few weeks for credit. I find it to be a huge waste of money buying a package of something (like dividers with double sided pockets or a specific size of Post-Its!) for just one class.

I haven't gone school supply shopping this year. I don't think I'll need to unless there is something obscure on a materials list. I know most of my teachers already, so I doubt it.

I've already posted, but I went and bought all my school stuff recently... So here's what I got.
1 One-Subject FiveStar notebook with cloth cover on the spirals
2 Three-Subject FiveStar notebook with cloth cover on the spirals
1 Package of Gel point pens in black.
1 Package of Bic #2 mechanical pencils (0.7 mm)
4 Color-coded folders
1 black binder pouch

The color-coded folders are for classes and stuff. Also, all the folders are hard plastic-y because the paper ones ALWAYS get destroyed, and I hate it.
Here's what I have so far...
One-subject notebook in green with a green folder.
Three-subject notebook in black with a purple folder.
Three-subject notebook in light blue with a light blue folder.
And orange folder to go with every class for homework, universal handouts, etc.

I hate using agendas, I always forget to write things down. So I just shove all my homework papers and reminders in the orange folder and take that home instead of three notebooks or whatever.

apologies for the TL;DR!!

Haha, I hate wide ruled loose-leaf paper.
For me:
8 FiveStar Notebooks, preferably the flex ones
10 FiveStar folders
New Sharpies
Pencils (mechanical)
Pens (ballpoint)
A gigantic binder to store all of my papers
Bookcovers
I have the TI 84 Plus, silver edition, but I really, really want the TI 89. It sucks how you can't use it on the SAT though :(

Aw, gosh. This is making me so depressed.

I went school shopping at Staples today:

Six 1" Binders
Five 150 page packs of college-ruled paper
Two boxes of Ticonderoga pencils
Two Mead Folders
Two boxes of Bic pens, one blue, one black
Binder dividers
Jansport backpack

Yay:)

I went school shopping as well. :D here's what i got:
1 Jansport SuperBreak Pinhead backpack
1 4-pack Post-it small tabs
1 2-pack Elmer's school glue sticks
1 2-pack Bic XXL retractable ball pen
1 100-count blank white index cards
1 300-count ruled white index cards
1 10-pack Bic mechanical pencils
1 5000-count standard staples
1 10-pack Bic Cristal red pens
1 10-pack Bic Cristal black pens
1 10-pack Bic Cristal blue pens
1 10-count Crayola markers
1 24-count Crayola crayons
1 Avery Heavy-Duty 2" white view binder with One Touch EZD ring
1 4-count Sharpie Accent Pocket Highlighters
2 2-count Papermate Clearpoint mechanical pencils
1 5-tab translucent dividers

and to me, this is barely getting anything. walmart did not have the Papermate PhD mechanical pencil and ballpoint pen that i wanted :( and they also ran out of college-ruled paper! and my mom absolutely refused to get me the Ti-84 Plus Silver Edition in silver. ahh, w/e. maybe next year.

For some reason, I love wide-ruled looseleaf paper. I hate binders, since I'm left-handed and it's a pain to write in them.

Only my English teachers have done the tabs to organize a binder thing. And one year my math teacher wanted us to have notebooks. I had the binder/notebook thing (the one that is supposed to be a combination). She yelled at me and I had to get a spiral notebook. I have never deviated from the supplies requirements of math teachers again.

So far I've gotten two marble notebooks, one for English and the other for a class I don't know of. Most likely I'll end up using it for Law.
