Do a search for pre med on cc. read through the results. you are not the first nor will you be the last to ask this question.

IMHO. Base on the fact that you are Asian , have the numbers (gpa, sat, etc) you will do well regardless of what college you goto.

So, the issue is then just simply How does another Asian premed student excel and standout? Let me offer you an alternative to the top 100 uni/lac's.

How about going to a school where Asian students will standout? That is, instead of going to a UC where you will be just another Asian face among a sea of Asian faces, how about going to a school in the midwest/south where Asian students are not present in great numbers and %'s.

How about going to a LAC, so you will have a better shot of not getting weeded out in Organic Chem that grades on a C curve.

I would think along those lines. Lets face the truth that adcom's let out a big yawn when they see another Asian pre med kid. Dont let this work against you. Do something different, throw the adcoms a curve, break the stereotype.

Frankie38 has good advice! But I would also add that there is more than one way to stand out, other than race. If you can succeed in the UCs, show that you're a unique individual despite having other Asians around competiting with you, than more power to ya! It really does depend on how well you think you can stand out.

Excellent schools that you'd have a shot at getting into, and a great shot of getting the all-important high grade point average: Emory, Notre Dame, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Colgate, Bowdoin, Colby. Would be good to get the SATs up a bit though. If you can't get the SATs up, check out Bucknell, Lafayette, Clark U., Union College, and U of Rochester.

Tufts, Holy Cross, Bowdoin. Tufts has a med school and Holy Cross has a fantastic program including Nobel Prize alumni in medecine. Holy Cross seeks students from west coast. Both Holy Cross and Bowdoin are SAT optional.
