How does the school you go to figure in decisions? My school sends a lot of kids to tech, so do you think that they have limits on the number accepted at each school?

Gah!! I have to stop worrying. I just want to know whether I'm in or not. This is totally killing me! I'm definitely NOT a happy camper when asked to relax and wait. :(

I can’t speak for Tech, but my alma mater (also a public U) used to discriminate against kids from affluent parts of South Florida because, although they were generally more qualified than kids from other parts of the state, there is pressure to admit the top kids from every high school in the state – even the bad ones whose valedictorians had 1000 SAT’s.

^ I had to room with a kid that was valedictorian from some high school in Valdosta, GA. I’m not lying when I tell you the kid didn’t know what a tangent line was. I couldn’t figure out how on earth he got accepted prior to finding out this redneck moron was a valedictorian. I think he went from English major to HTS. Probably didn’t graduate. It was really a shame because he definitely took a spot away from someone that actually belonged at tech.

On the GT blog, the admissions director Leslie Jackson said this:

Often times, the admissions committee will have a group of applicants who could do very well at their institution, however, they only have space for a certain number. That is when the committee sits down and reviews each high school, applicant by applicant, to see if there are any clear ways that they can make unbiased decisions. This is when number of AP classes taken, extra curricular involvement, and how well you did on your essay really start to count- Big Time.

And yes…I’m growing impatient as well. Hopefully sometime this week!!
