Schools Closed

I know Kent is closed for the time being because of power outages. Any other schools out there closed?

Snow already?!? its still over 10 degrees c here (50f), I think the weather will be a mjor thing to adjust to!!!

Most of Western MA is without power. Many of the schools are closed but don’t have the power to post it. We have one child at school - in a fortress with a generator - and another staying with friends in another state until power is restored – presumably later this week. Schools have communicated through robo cell calls.

Daughter at school in Western CT - school cancelled and they are running on generators.

Hotchkiss closed. Salisbury no power, on generators - will probably close.

@UKgirl: The Northeast got hit with an anomalous snow storm this weekend. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much snow this early in the year.

[More than 2 million without power as Northeast recovers from storm - CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/31/us/east-coast-storm/index.html?hpt=hp_t2)

Andover has classes, but some buildings don’t have power. Last night, d’s dorm hosted girls from dorms without power.

Surprisingly, Deerfield never lost power. So we definitely had classes today.

Taft has some outlying buildings without power, but all classrooms are up and running (much to student chagrin I’m sure).

Emma Willard in upstate in NY was without power for the majority of the weekend and running on generator, but today was fine so we had classes :P

Loomis had weekend catchup day scheduled yesterday anyway, but massive outages in the Hartford area, and downed wires and tree limbs everywhere, have cancelled classes for today and tomorrow. School will reopen on Thursday. There is no power anywhere in the area, but the Island has a generator systems so students and dorm faculty are all fine.

SPS has stayed open despite 22 inches of snow, high winds and downed trees - the benefit of 100% boarding, faculty living on campus and generating your own power.

Westminster is closed. Apparently Simsbury looks like a battle zone. The Simsbury public schools are closed through Friday. Westminster is sending daily updates but unknown when the school will reopen.

Power has been restored at Hotchkiss. THS will resume classes tomorrow (Nov. 3) commencing at 10:00 a.m.

thanks for all posting the info. interesting to see how much time is lost from the term for each school

kent students have to return between now and tomorrow at noon. classes will resume tomorrow afternoon

Westminster finally got power back. Students taking Sat SAT’s are due back Friday and the rest of the boarding community is to be back by 9 on Sunday night. Classes commence Monday morning! It sounds like Simsbury is still in bad shape.

Miss Porter’s held classes starting on Wednesday. They invited day school families to come to campus for a shower, hot meal, wifi and to charge devices. However a generator on one part of campus gave out last night and again this evening. This coming weekend is now open so girls can go home and lessen the burden on the generator. Varsity sports are still on.

When a BS closes, where do the kids who DO NOT live nearby go? Surely they can’t fly home for a few days.

They can stay at the homes of their classmates. A few years ago a really bad flu rapidly spread on campus that they had to shut down for a week and bring in a hazmat team.
