Just wondering what schools are on your small list? Do you want to stay in the northeast? What about your financing, can you pay $50,000 to go to school? The answers to these questions would greatly help.

SUNY Binghamton, Penn State, BU, NYU. I wouldn’t need to worry too much about financing.

Anyway, these are some schools. They’re all large schools, but I’d really like to look at some smaller LACs. My brother goes to Williams and it’s amazing, but I don’t really have a chance.

Schools like that would be nice though. I’d prefer to stay in the northeast, but I’m open to the west coast too.

Unfortunately, schools don’t care that much about the Writing score. :(

Hopefully, your new SAT scores in CR and M will go up. When do you get those scores???

*To be honest, I’m just copying the schools that most of my friends are applying to.

LOL…OK…not a good idea. What do YOU want in a college? Look at the below list and think about what YOU want…

Spirited school with big sports to watch
Quiet school
Nerdy school
Greeks?
Rural campus
City campus
Honors College
Cold weather
Warm/moderate weather

I guess my parents can pay most of the costs? I mean finances wouldn’t be a deciding issue when choosing colleges.

since you have a sibling in college, do yourself a favor and ask your parents how much they will pay each year for YOUR costs. That way, you’ll know for sure. With 2 in college, your parents have a more limited budget. They may be hoping for financial aid with 2 in college. If that’s the case, then your list will have to change a bit.

I think I get my scores by the end of October. Based on previous practice tests, I should be around high 2100s.

I’d like a spirited school, but with kids who do care strongly about academics. As to city or rural, I guess I’d slightly prefer city, but I don’t have any problems with rural. I mean as long as there are things to do, I’m fine.

I know I’m still being vague…but I can’t help it lol

Well my school doesn’t actually report rankings. I was probably way too generous with that estimation though lol. Unweighted is probably 3.3ish.

Loyola of Maryland
Elon University (although it’s in NC)
Roanoke College (in SW Va. But, your SAT might get you decent merit there)
Juniata College
Allegheny College
The College of New Jersey (?)

That 3.3 is going to prevent you from getting into most of the more selective LACs unless it’s the result of a weak freshman year with an upward trend after that: Schools understand that kids, and especially boys, may get off to a slower start in 9th grade. If you can make the case that you have matured/focused/gotten organized in subsequent years-as demonstrated by the rising GPA - you may have other options.

I guess I have a pretty good upward trend, but nothing drastic enough to make a case out of. I do have straight A’s as of senior year right now. If that even makes a difference lol.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Were there any other kids in a similar situation?
