What are your preferences for what you want in a college?

Georgraphic location, size, cost, urban or rural, intended major…

There are MANY universities, and to name a few I can just say some community colleges which you can get into.

There are several threads on this topic in the Parents Forum. If you read through them you should get some good ideas.

Is this for you?

Will you be doing Army ROTC?

There are soooo many that we can name, please give us more to go on…

Why does everyone always suggest Community College for those with GPA’s like 3.0’s? They can still get into Universities. One of my friends brother got into Stony Brook with a 3.2 GPA. Stony Brook is ranked top 100 in the US.

A 3.0 with good test scores, strong recommendations, perceptive essays and interesting ECs is different from a 3.0 with mediocre test scores, indifferent recommendations, a blah essay and few or no ECs. In the latter case, if you add financial need, and therefore no possiblity of scholarships or merit aid, community college makes a lot of sense.

When someone says “3.0 and 1800,” as the most salient characteristics, the assumption is that there is nothing else in this applicants favor, so expect to see the CC recommendeation.
