I'm completely lost as to what to pick for my reaches and safeties and all that stuff. Just looking at sites like college p.r.o.w.l.e.r (why is that censored) don't even begin to narrow anything down for me. Any recommendations? Thanks a lot.

Finances, location, possible major, and desired setting might help narrow it down. And check the parents forum 3.0 thread for some possible ideas. I think there is also a 3.3- 3.6 thread there. The ideas tend to be regional.

Finances aren’t a huge concern. Location, I’d prefer nothing too far East. I have no idea about my major. I’d prefer a medium-sized campus.

Thanks for the 3.0 thread.

By “not too far east”, if you mean Western, there is also a Western 3.0 thread. The schools in California are pretty pricy, even the publics, so it’s good that is not an issue. If “midsize” means 2-5k, consider Jesuit and quasi Catholic schools like LMU, SCU, Gonzaga, and University of Portland. Some Washington and Oregon schools are less, if that matters.

For safeties and matches not on the east coast between 3000 and 8000, accept at least 50% of students and 50% graduation rate.
My DD is doing extremely well at Slippery Rock University in Western PA. It is a great school, low cost, and the enrollment is around 8000. I’ve been very impressed by the school, the kids have been great, all very friendly and seem to be really supportive of one another.

What do you want in a school…?

What’s your intended major?
A large school or a small school?
Near a city or not?
Do you need lots of aid?
To what states are you willing to move?
Do you like cold weather or hot weather?

Just a few things you need to take into account.
