I have been looking around for schools that have Creative Nonfiction majors or even Creative Writing majors. Although, I don't want to major in English and minor in Creative Writing (or focus) I would much rather major in Creative Writing/Nonfiction and minor in most likely art, or even the other way around. My problem is that I can't really find too many schools with that specific major so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any. :) Really, the only one I could find with my specific major is Columbia College Chicago, and I know that isn't exactly the most credible school out there.

Thanks for any help you can give!

I’ve never heard of a nonfiction major, but there are several with Creative Writing majors. Two very good schools that I know of are Macalester College in Minnesota and Oberlin College in Ohio. I would definitely look into both - both also have very strong art programs.

Also, CollegeBoard.com has a search by college major - maybe that will help you?

Kenyon and Denison have good creative writing/English majors and art.

How many different classes can there be specific to creative nonfiction? At Brown I think there’s 2: if there’s less than 5, then there’s really no reason for it to be an independent major from English. Rather, get an English degree, and just make sure classes are offered that will help you with your creative nonfiction.
