What are some good southern schools for CS? I have good grades and can probably get into some competitive schools.

MIT, Cal Tech, Harvard, Princeton, Cal, Carnagie Mellon...there are a lot of schools that are good in CS.

lol...he asked for southern schools. UT-Austin, Georgia Tech, Duke

Oh...yeah...

Rice has a good CS program

I am appling to UT Austin. What schools give good merit aid? i can't afford $40k a year.

Are you a TX resident? If you are, UT should be cheap for you then.

no im from MN

where is Rice located?

Houston, TX

ok, what are some more schools in the southwest? As long as it doesn't usually snow there ill consider it!

U Miami FL, UT, Duke, UCs (depends on your stats)

computer science is pretty popular, as long as you're not at a liberal arts college, so i would look by looking for schools that fit your wants/needs (aid, campus, academics, greek life, ect)

I am applying to UT Austin. I don't really care for the east so i'm looking more into the western part of the country. I have missed the UC dead line unfortunately. OOS was too much anyway.

UT OOS is insane...I applied for engineering, got into UT, but not the e-school...decided to pass it up because i'd be wasting a year of school paying 40K a year...its insane...im thinking about applying to transfer, but again, UT OOS is ridiculous! once you actually get in, you're pushed away due to the fact you'll be paying off the loans till you're 40, and since im doing engineering, i want to be rich and be able to enjoy it seeming ive worked my butt off in school hahah

What type of CS are you interested in? Theory? HW? Programming?, etc.

probably programming. but that's the only area i know of.

There you go. There is alot more to CS than just coding. You probably dont even need to go to college to code.

Take a look at what some of professors phd's specialize in. This will give you an idea of what is available in academia.

Since you said programming. What type of career/work/job/company would you be interested in working for?

I was thinking video games maybe. I am also thinking of writing software in general. dont really have an employer preference but i am interested in doing consulting.
