Well, since Rad and bama made one, I thought I would too. All advice is appreciated.

I am looking for a school with latin classes, crew, strong science and math classes (beyond AP calc - since I will take that soph year), science research (not required but bonus), and preferably in New England + NJ + PA. Oh yeah, and I need a big amount of FA.

Here's my list so far:

Andover
Brooks
Choate
Exeter
Hotchkiss
Kent
Lawrenceville
Loomis Chaffee
Middlesex
NMH
Peddie
St. Marks
St. Pauls
Tabor
Taft

Good, hearty list. However, I would recommend taking 5-8 schools off, so that you can spend more time on each individual application.
I hope no one takes offense to this, but I would take off Tabor and Brooks.

I don’t think anyone will take offense, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. The main reason I liked Tabor was for the ocean (marine science, sailing, crew). I heard Brooks had a decent science program too and had a higher acceptance rate than some of the other schools I was applying to.

I just looked at Milton. They have everything I am looking for. Instead of Crew I could do sailing I guess. They are both on the water. haha. I inquired there last year but something was bothering me about it. IDK what but I just got a strange vibe from Milton, even though I never visited. I guess I will look into it and try and visit this year.

Well this year (9th) I am taking Geometry. Then this summer I am studying Alg 2. Then I will take Pre-Calc next year (10th) and then I will repeat 10th grade so when/if I get into BS and I will be taking AP Calc.

that looks like a pretty solid list of schools. I’m trying to remember all the schools I applied to but that was during the 2004-2005 school year so I’m a bit hazy on all of them. I think I applied to 8 though and it sucked doing alllll the individual applications so I recommend cutting your list down to like 8 or less unless you’re willing to do a ton of applications.
=)

Yeah I am going to try and visit a few of the schools I am not sure about, like Andover, Hotchkiss, Tabor, NMH, Milton and Brooks this summer, to eliminate some that don’t match what I want.

@Hopeful- Euhm you do realize that sailing and rowing is very different. Crew is physically intense and draining, sailing is more laid back and fun so I would suggest you choose either or and If you’re not very athletic and you are thinking of starting crew, I would advise against it since it’s gonna be hard for the first year.

Yeah that is why I am a little on the edge for schools that don’t have crew (HK, Milton, LC). I really want to try crew and I don’t really care how hard it is going to be the first year. This summer + next year I am going to start working out. I may be unathletic but I am not like totally out of shape.
