Schools going to wait list

[The Daily Pennsylvanian :: Penn sees highest yield rate since 2007](Penn sees highest yield rate since 2007 | The Daily Pennsylvanian)

Looks like UPenn will only be using waitlist for summer melt.

<a href=“Despite Cancellation of Visitas, Yield for Class of 2017 Hits 44-Year High | News | The Harvard Crimson”>Despite Cancellation of Visitas, Yield for Class of 2017 Hits 44-Year High | News | The Harvard Crimson;

Same for Harvard.

I just read a piece from Penn that they are one of the very few universities that still is offering financial aid that does not require use of loans. Many other schools tried that policy before the Great Recession, but then backtracked. When students were comparing financial aid offers this year, that may have been a deal-breaker.

(Personally, I think universities should expect students to take out a reasonable amount of government-subsidized loans - the students should have some “skin in the game.” )

Charlie, I agree with you in general, but for kids from families with the lowest of incomes, not only will their families be unable to help them, but the college student may be helping his family, over the summer, etc.

You probably don’t need to post the “no” schools.

Please continue to post all of the waitlist information - - whether it’s a go or not. It is all helpful.

I think “no” is useful because it means the door is closed, so students could move on. Sometimes there is no news about a school because they haven’t made the decision whether to go their WL yet. Schools that have gone to their WL may then close it after they have filled their class.

Rice University ???

U Chicago notified kids last night. But so far everyone has reported rejections, so at this point it’s not clear if they are actually going to admit anyone.

Somebody posted on the Virginia Tech forum that they have started going to the waitlist.
Could somebody please change the spelling for Carnegie Mellon next time this is updated . It is 2 L’s ,not one. I would but not sure how to update all this. Thanks!

Princeton is going to the WL but only for a few spots:

Brown got a 3% higher yield than expected and is, at the moment, overbooked. They expect a bit of shrinkage as some students take gap years (a few dozen each year – my son was one 2 years ago) and as a few get off other wait-lists. Brown generally only loses accepted students to HYP. So Brown may ultimately end up taking a small handful, but probably not for awhile (none got off the wait-list last year).
