Schools I should be applying to?

Hi everyone. So I've been stalking CC for a while now, trying to get a feel for what I should be expecting as a senior next year. So here are my stats, and it would be awesome if you could recommend schools I should apply to! I'm thinking of Carnegie Mellon ED in MCS or CIT, NYU, UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, UF, yada yada....

SATII: 800 Math 2, taking chem in may
ACT: N/A
GPA: 3.6 UW(cringe), 4.5 W
Rank: Top 9%
Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): APES (4), Macro (4), AP Comp Gov and Poli (4), Stats (4), Bio (3), Chem (5), Comp Sci (5), APUSH (5), 92 AMC 12B
Senior Year Coursework: since we already signed up for classes might as well put it here: AP English Lang, AP Gov, AP Physics C, AP Calc BC, Accounting and taking college classes at UF

EC's
-3 years of orchestra, first violin
-3 years FBLA, top 10 state, district Treasurer 1 year and secretary the other.
-3 years Math Team (#1 in nation) place multiple times top 10 in state and nationally
-Volunteer at local Museum, math tutor at local middle schools, raised money for Muscular Dystrophy (~$5000) and radiation oncology research lab (100+ hours) and I am going to try (hopefully) to write a paper and send it to the head of the Cancer department at UF (friend of dad's)
-2 years Spanish Club - Treasurer
-NHS, Spanish Honor Society, National Technical Society and Math Honor Society all 1 year (can only join Junior year)

Extra Info:
-Female Asian :(
-Would be awesome if I could get an interview because I think i'd do great
-$70-75K income
-Essays should be pretty good
-Recs should be amazing from teachers

Thanks so much! And I will chance back!

Carnegie Mellon: match
NYU: match
USC: match
UF: match
UCLA: hgh match
Berkeley: high match

Look into Georgia Tech, UIUC, and Northwestern. I thnk they would all be matches.

Chance back

All of them are match but UBerkeley (Low reach)
CM (ED) is high match

Thanks! Chanced back!

ALSO
Idk if this will help my application, but I am going to a math camp that’s pretty rigorous that will show my increased interest in math/engineering

ucb: high match
cmu high match
ucla high match
nyu match

Thanks! Chanced back!

bumppp

Most are solid matches, especially if you go ED for CMU… UCLA out of state is tough, and they are very stingy with the financial aid at the moment I’ve heard, but if you can afford it its a great school. All california schools are struggling with aid due to economic issues in the state.

Yeah that is true. I don’t know if my parents could afford it… but apparently CMU ED grants all accepted student’s financial aid needs so that’d be nice :P

Carnegie Mellon: match/low match (because of ED)
NYU: match/high match
USC: match
UF: low match
UCLA: hgh match
Berkeley: high match

You look like you have a very solid array of colleges that you are applying to! If you can spare the time, I would advise choosing one or two safety schools, and maybe one more reach, as your selections are relatively modest as of now. Good luck and thanks for chancing me!

Bring up your GPA. That may help your chance at top schools a lot. 3.6 won’t get you too far.

Yeah, I’m thinking about UR, UM, UVA, maybe FSU for safeties. I might try for Northwestern as a reach :stuck_out_tongue:
@billcsho
You are the first person to bring up my GPA and I thought many people would bring it up. But yes, I definitely agree. For my 9 wks grade I have all A’s right now ( All AP’s)

@spiritkoi
Which UM are you talking about as safety?

@billcsho university of Miami! I live in Florida and will apply for a bright futures scholarship.

I see. There are just too many U of M in this country. Even more confusing, there is also a Miami University in Ohio. ;)

Haha there are a lot! And woah… that confuses me even more lol. But yeah I meant the one in Florida :P

Bump

Bumpity bump

Bump plz someone :(

UF may be your best match (for in-state engineering) due to cost. However, the holistic admissions is a bit random and UF rarely gives out merit scholarships. For that reason you may want to look at a few other in-state options as “financial” safeties.

Add UCF and/or USF to your list, as you may be awarded significant merit scholarships (which works great with Bright Futures and any FA aid). They both have decent engineering programs. You could apply to UCF and be accepted by late October. It’s always nice to get an early acceptance! They also start awarding scholarships to accepted students by late November.

Include FSU, but merit aid may not be much better than UF’s.

For out of state, as another “financial” safety, you may want to look at the University of Alabama. With your current stats, this year, you would have earned a full scholarship (OOS 2/3 Tuition + OOS 1/3 Tuition for being an engineering major) + $2,500 a year (once again, for being an engineering major). Auburn University could also be an option, as you would also qualify for OOS scholarships. Apply to both schools in September and you’ll also get early acceptances. (and a lot of love, via mailings, e-mails and such, it’s nice to be wanted!.)

Good Luck!
