I'm looking forward to the new application season, and like many others, I'm already creating a list of schools I want to apply to. I'm kind of copying RiP with this thread, but I'd love some insight from you all.

St. Paul's
Blair
Cate
Choate
Middlesex
Emma Willard
St. Andrew's, DE
Hotchkiss
Miss Porter's
Interlochen
Taft
Episcopal

What I'm looking for: schools with a strong community, high boarding population, and educated teachers. It can be anywhere in the US; I'd prefer coed single-sex is an option. I'm open to any suggestions!

BITER! lol jk Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or am I getting the quote wrong o.O [ditz moment lol]

I think I’m in love with your entire list minus HK. I can’t believe you guys have no idea how AMAZING NMH is, especially in the humanities. You should SEE their arts center. It is absolutely PHENOMENAL. It looks better than most colleges I’ve seen, plus the work displayed is gorgeous. PMAC has nothing on it.
As a safety you should put Williston for arts. That recent scandal seems like it would boost chances of admission since there’d be less applicants. Plus their were some of the best seen.

I actually considered NMH, but the whole work program thing isn’t my cup of tea…
I haven’t looked into Williston, but it looks like a great school and I’d love to learn more about it.

And a little more about me: I’m a lifelong dancer, so I want a school with a strong dance program. I want a school with strong humanities but hello? That’s pretty much all prep schools, haha.

NMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMHNMH The work program really isn’t that bad. Not everyone works at the farm and after your first year/semester they let you choose. You job could be giving tours or in the library or something.

NMH has a great dance program. And if anyone looking at this is interested in music O-M-G we looked in on one of their ensembles rehearsals and they were amazing. I thought they were a professional recording before we opened the door!

(I think I’ve made up my mind about my fav school haha, I’m such a cheerleader ;))

I can see you at SPS too though cough

I think you should take Deerfield into consideration. One of my friends chose Deerfield over Exeter and Andover because she thought that A and E were too big, and Deerfield as around 600 students, I think it was. I think the only “downside” for some people would be that Deerfield has a formal dress code (no t-shirts, sweatpants, jeans, etc.) But it’s a really great school, and I think you should consider it.

Glad you’re looking at Hotchkiss! It’s a great school with nice people that gives roughly 600 students stellar academics amid a well rounded education.

Hotchkiss classes are small and you get lots of personal attention. The Harkness method is used in humanities disciplines. One of my favorite things about the humanities portion of Hotchkiss’ academic curriculum is that they have a unique alternative to traditional humanities classes called the humanities program. Students who choose to participate in the humanities program have all their humanities classes (English, History, Religion, Philosophy…etc) coordinated so that the literature you are studying in English will reflect the time period you study in history, which will effect your discussion topic in Philosophy…etc. Because all their humanities classed are intertwined, students in the humanities program get a better view of the big picture by understanding of cause and effect throughout the world. I chose to participate in the program, and think that it will be a lot more meaningful than just individual classes for me. Can’t wait to start it in the fall! :)

Hotchkiss also just happens to be an athletic powerhouse. (No sweat if you’re not the best athlete, though. Hotchkiss has Varsity, JV, club, and thirds teams for most sports so there is a level of play for all.) Our field hockey teams, football teams, and track program are especially strong. :)

Hotchkiss is also amazing at debate. We have arguably the best team in the nation. ;)

I hope I helped you get a taste for THS! It’s an amazing place. :)

Okay, here’s my list (for now!)
Reaches: SPS & Deerfield (nataliet, I visited the website and fell in love :)) But I also love Hotchkiss, St. George’s and Exeter… hard decisions!
Matches: Blair & Episcopal
Safeties: Proctor & Cushing
