*and as for price, LSU is actually cheaper than most of the UC’s for instate tuition and room and board. And I’ll be able to finance these. *

*Are you saying that you’ll have to take out loans to attend an OOS school? Who will be taking out these loans? Your parents or you? *

*And as for financing I know the answer to those questions, I don’t really want to tell other people, but trust me I’ll be fine. *

Ok… I misunderstood your first quote. It sounded as if you needed to take out loans in order to go to these colleges. But, since you now suggest that you’ll have no problems paying then…

What else do you want in a school?

Warm weather?
cold, snowy weather?
rah rah big sports teams to watch
What is your likely major?
Greek systems?

Michigan State- Great school with great academics. Lots of school spirit. Good college town. (OK- I am biased as I went there, OOS, for undergrad and grad school. Great fit for me.

Big ten schools are wonderful!!

mom2college kids-
Sorry if I sounded rude in that second post, but its a family thing, that I’ll leave at that.

I’d prefer fairly warm weather, but not too hot, Like Seattle-San Fransisco type is perfect for me. I like college sports but it’s not a must. I want to major in Poli sci, and I don’t now weather or not I want to join a frat yet, but I’d like to go to a school where I at least have the option.

If you like Wisconsin, you’d probably like Michigan as well. It would be tough with your current SAT score, but kids from my school have gotten into UM with about an 1850, so it’s not that big of a reach. UM has a great political science program as well, and Ann Arbor is pretty cool.

I’m also looking into LSU, FSU, Tulane. Probably like FSU the most out of those 3. However LSU gives out the best merit $ and if you get a 30 ACT or 1330 SAT(M+CR) you get free tuition, and Tulane gives out a lot of money, but it is already +$50k to go there. FSU gives some OOS money, but not as much, but I’m still going to apply.

Good luck, I’m also looking into Poli Sci and Econ.

So, is law school in your future?

Maybe USeattle, USF, USD, or UPortland?

ASU! You should try to go to the Barrett Honors college! I have a friend who is also doing those majors, and she’s attending ASU. It’s a really big school, but it can work really well for some people! :)

I’d maybe get rid of Cal and NYU. First of all, they’re both huge reaches for you. Second, I can’t speak for Cal, but NYU isn’t really a “party school” in the traditional sense that a lot of the other schools on your list are.

I think whoever mentioned UAlbany gave a great suggestion for a safety.

I think this student would need a higher score for Barrett’s honors college unless he/she has a good hook.

Barrett’s: The average SAT score (math and verbal sections only) was 1308 and the average ACT was 29.

ASU might be too hot for this student. I realize that the really hot months are in summer when the student wouldn’t be there, but I don’t know how hot it is during the school months.

I do think the student should test again and hope to get a higher score…also take the ACT (some do better with the ACT).

I heard that if you write a really stellar essay, it’s easy to become admitted to Barretts
Arizona’s pretty nice in the winter, it can be chilly in the morning, but it warms up by afternoon to about the 70s. Spring weather is in the 80s, as in the fall!

@mom2collegekids -
I do agree on the retesting!
