Schools in Florida???

does anybody know anything about Saint Leo University?? i've been trying to decide between University of Tampa and Saint Leo, i've been trying to choose which one to go to for a long time, and i really can't choose. i'm not the party type that likes to drink and stuff and i though tampa was more of a party school. anyway, i'm going to major in business, i wanna be a real estate broker when i graduate. tampa is offering me a $30,000 scholarship and Saint Leo a $20,000 scholarship, but they end up costing the same cuz Saint Leo is cheaper tuition to begin with. Anyone want to give me good advice, cuz trust me, right now i'm cutting it kind of close, and i need it.

To each his own opinion, I suppose. I can honestly say that some very one-sided and misguided info was given on UCF in this thread, and that's unfortunate. One also must be careful about making sweeping generalizations about all the schools in any given state. In any event, best wishes to all of you in your endeavors, wherever you attend or decide to attend school.

raisinbran11....I would go to University of Tampa.Saint Leo is not that good of a school academically.Tampa has a really good business school and is known for business. I have heard University of Tampa not being a party school, just that alot of people go to bars and clubs in Ybor City and Channelside. Also, UT is a beautiful school right in the city.

Raisinbran11 I would not go to UT. I went there, trust me. If you aren't the party type then it will probably be that much harder to make friends. Yes, UT is gorgeous, but just...no. It is good for business, I'll give Smitty that, but I wouldn't recommend UT to my worst enemy (unless my worst enemy was a size zero blonde driving a Mercedes with implants...)

Got any more questions about UT, private message me and I'll try to answer them.

All I have to say to people going into college this fall is that all colleges have some sort of party scene so if you think that colleges dont have a party scene than you are going to have a rude awakening. Majority of schools in the United States do have some sort of party scene.

I know a lot of the colleges have a party scene, that's not the reason I don't recommend UT. There are plenty of other reasons. Like it's not worth the price for the education, or the headache of the tons of snobby people there.

Well, I understand your reasons. This seems like the school where people either hate it or love it. But I have decided to go to UT and I am going to have an optomistic view about it. No college will be perfect so, I am just going to enjoy it. I fell in love with it after I have visited in February so I know what to expect. The kids didnt seem that bad when i went but i might be wrong, i thought the kids at Eckerd and USF were more snobby. But I hope you are doing well at your other college, and get a good job in the future. Good Luck!!

Hey: To each his/her own. I know people who go to UT and absolutely LOVE it. It just was not the place for me, and not what I expected. I went to UT for the wrong reasons (it didn't even have my major). I honestly hope that you enjoy going there. Tampa's such a great city, I can't say enough good things about it, and UT is a beautiful campus. It's just not for everybody :) Best of luck there, I mean it :)

I am considering going to UT. USF is like 30 minutes away or less which means there is alot of people to hang out with outside of UT.

Whoa. There's a University of Tampa? Is it in Tampa?

Yep. It's in Tampa...downtown on Kennedy (whereas USF is uptown on Fowler/Fletcher)

Kenshi, REALLY look into it before deciding. That's all the advice I'm giving :-X

UF. Its the best in the state. No need to argue with that. Ask anyone.

UF is good in a number of areas, but not all. There is much to be said for doing research on the program you want and then selecting the university. For example, if you want to major in music or theatre I would not suggest UF.

Even the students that go there know UCF sucks.

I don't think picking a school because it is best in your program is necessarily a good idea. Just pick the best school overall, because so many people change their majors so many times during college, even when they are "sure" going in that they are not going to change. You don't want to be stuck at a school that is good at music or theatre or engineering and not really anything else.

I'm starting to think that picking a school in Florida is just hit or miss. And it seems like it's between UF/UMiami/FSU. That's how they're rated in USNews...UF is 50, UMiami is 55, FSU is 109.

In 2002 FSU was rated 64. FSU hired Wetherell as president and dropped in the US News rankings. Guess they don't like him.

If selecting a particular university program is not the way a potential student wants to judge a university, then I would suggest finding the best liberal arts program at the least cost.

However, the two public schools have different programs and areas of priority. They also have substantially larger populations, resources and staff than Miami. I would suggest learning the strengths of all and choosing from a point of knowledge as opposed to mere rankings.

I've posted various rankings in the FSU section that compare a number of programs among Florida schools.

USF is better than UCF... Just ask any college student in Florida.

I don't care about rank and all that crap all I care about is do they have the degree I want and is the school in a good location.

So for me.. UCF, USF ( doesnt off the degree I want but in a good location), and UT

OK my ranking of the major florida schools

1.University of florida(pros. academics,sports.....cons dorms, gainesville)
2.Florida state university(pro. party school.......cons
3. University of miami(pro. campus, miami.......cons price school spirit)
4.New college(pro.size................................con size)
5.Fau ( location...............................academics)
6.ucf (pro. growing..........................con commuter school
7.usf (pro.getting better..................con.. tension between student body, commuter school, recent problem with violence on campus
