Schools In New York

Hello, I am from VA, and I am looking for some decent Universities in New York that are not as expensive as Fordham or Pace Universities. It would be appreciated if there were a decent amount of out of state students attending these schools. Thank You. (Preferred to be in the City or Near the City)

NYU--- except that's really expensive

Columbia--- if you can get in, you are guaranteed 100% financial aid based on your need. That can range from a full ride to $0.

There really aren’t any descent schools that are cheap except for the CUNYs, but the majority of the students are in state.

Anything near NYC is going to be expensive.

That said, Wagner, Manhattan College, and Marymount Manhattan are some of the cheaper schools in the area. St. John's is more expensive, but still slightly cheaper than Fordham and such.

What are your stats?

If you don't mind going a little bit further from the city, Marist?

world changer, what is your opinion on marist?

Sarah Lawrence and Vassar are outside the city, but probably not cheaper.

CUNY-Hunter is in the middle of the city, and is priced somewhere around 20k for tuition/room/board for out of staters.

bahh i wish NYU wasnt so expensive...screw NYC...=[

Stony Brook is about an hour 30 min away by car, its in Suffolk County. Its comparable to Fordham, just cheaper.

NYIT, st peter's college, NJIT, stevens IT, suny purchase,
all in commutable distance to NYC

Moltenlava, wanting to be near an urban area is one thing, insiting on being in one particular city is unwise. Is there a reason in particular why you are looking purely at NYC? Why wont Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, Houston, LA, San Francisco etc...

Dennis173: I'm not terribly familiar with Marist, but it seems like a nice place to go to school. Not Ivy caliber, but fairly good academics. Clean campus, happy students....

It's also about $9000 cheaper than most NY privates.

Add Suny New Paltz near Vassar. SUNY Old Westbury a possibility too (1/2 hr. by train.) Queens College and Brooklyn College also options.

Um... how come no one mentioned Cooper Union? If you get in (acceptance rate is 10%), it is tuition-free.

an hour and a half from stony brook to nyc (manhattan i assume you mean - in which case expect parking to be difficult and expensive) assumes traffic is good -- and traffic on long island usually isn't.

the long island railroad, from stony brook to penn station in manhattan is generally about a 2 hour ride.

visiting nyc from stonybrook is doable -- but do not assume its an easy car ride to drop into nyc anytime.

FIRST and for most I would like to appreciate the posts. Secondly, I cannot get into NYU with my stats, Pace is a school I can get into, and Fordham is a school I can possibly get into. The main reason I would like to go to NYC for college is for the experience, internships, and the oppurtunities. If there is any other college in which you feel is somewhat reputable, and at the same time moderately expensive in a different (city atmosphere) please let me know. I thought that being specific would help in my search for the best college. Then again I do not know as much as you all do. Thank You.
