Schools in North Carolina

We're heading down to NC on Friday. D has an audition at UNCG on Saturday. Last week's weather concerned me a bit. The last place you want to be is in the south when there is snow falling. I grew up in southern Virginia and schools might close a week for 4 inches of snow. Virginia is another state blessed with great schools. I graduated from William & Mary and people still try to argue with me that it is a private school. I have relatives that have attended every school in the state - the one that everyone seems to love is Virginia Tech.

I know it's in South Carolina, but don't overlook Furman. It might be an option.

Last night we had maybe an inch of snow (this isn't NC, but another Southern state), and guess what - schools closed today. I grew up in Iowa, and school was NEVER closed for snow.

Sorry guys, I definitely did not mean to lump all northeasterners together, I had just talked to this girl and didn't want anyone else to feel that way. From other things she said, I don't think she got much help or advice from her parents or GC, so maybe that was why she wasn't prepared.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread either. It think NC has a lot of great colleges, a terrific climate and is a great place to live after college, too. A few colleges I don't think anyone has mentioned: Peace College, Lenoir-Rhyne, Campbell, Wingate and Montreat. Peace is in Raleigh and Wingate is about 30-45 minutes outside Charlotte. Montreat is within a similar drive of Asheville if I remember correctly.

What kind of college has no football, no fraternities or sororities, and believes that one person can change the world?

JustAMom, There's a cool Mellow in Blowing Rock, NC too if you ever drift over that way from Asheville. I've eaten at both by the way,LOL. There are also a few Mellow locations in Atlanta in case you get hungry further south. Had my first Mellow Mushroom experince in Hotlanta!

Oh but it is sooooo much more than pizza! In Asheville - the wait in the summer can be over an hour - who waits an hour to be seated for pizza?
