What are some schools in and around the same quality as Northeastern on the east coast (maybe Los Angeles and San Francisco on west coast)? I will apply through the soccer team so a soccer team is required. Most likely located in or close to a big city such as Boston, New York. I am an international student and I play soccer here in the second best division available in our country (Sweden).

Will I be able to get into universities such as New York University, Boston College, Boston University through their soccer coach and decent SAT/TOEFL scores?

What I want is simply some recommendations on schools similar to Northeastern in quality and have a decent soccer team.

Suggestions on good lower tier schools are also welcome as back up schools.

I would highly recommend Boston College. It is right near Northeastern and the academics are a little better, however the sports teams are also alot better and soccer would probably be more difficult to get on. The two schools have very different atmospheres so if you are in Boston, you’d probably want to visit both and see what you like.

Drexel in Philadelphia is similar to Northeastern. Both in a city, but are 5 year programs with 2 cooperative education semesters, both have engineering as well as many other majors.
If you are looking outside of NYC, you could try Hofstra as well. It’s on Long Island, but on the commuting train line to NYC.

What level is the Boston College Soccer team compared to the best soccer teams in USA? I have a few friends who have played and plays for Marquette in Milwaukee. So if you could compare Marquette to Boston’s soccer team it would be good since I know the qualities my friends playing in Marquette.

oops, I meant where IN Sweden…I had a 25 lb cat taking up my lap so I had a typo
got family there
and while Drexel and Temple are both excellent schools, Philly isnowhere near the same environment as Boston

had to laugh at the cat typo’s. I just love the look you get from them when you have to adjust their sleeping position so you can do something constructive for the next 4 hours while they’re sleeping…

Of the schools mentioned above (NEU, NYU, BC, BU, Drexel, Hofstra, Temple, Marquette), NYU and BC are far more selective than the others. It will be tough to get into either one “through the soccer coach” and/or with just “decent” SAT/TOEFL scores. You will need a high GPA and high test scores to be a competitive candidate for admission. If you qualify academically, however, then your soccer ability might give you a boost.

Don’t you ? Sorry, I live in south Jersey and I think Philly is a horrible city. This is my opinion, but shared by most people I know in my area, including those who were raised there.

" Yeah, because South Jersey is really the epitome of paradise… "

when compared to Philly, no contest.

At least we don’t live with the threat of stray bullets flying as heard almost daily on the Philly newscasts. But then I wasn’t comparing my safe, clean rural residence to Philly…it was Boston to Philly. :D

dionechristmas, I appreciate that you enjoy Philadelphia, but it is not as safe and clean as Boston.
I am not suggesting that Boston is free of crime , but compared to Philly…well, I really don’t need to elaborate do I ?
My car was stolen on Chestnut St , close to Drexel and one of our friend’s daughers was a victim of a brutal ,violent crime on N Broad…she was a student at Temple at the time.
Please understand that my feelings ( based on facts and personal experiences ) about Philly are in no way to be an insult to anyone … You may well not like my community…would probably find it very boring, but I wouldn’t be offended or take it personally.
I grew up rather close to Boston…my mother was born there and lived there in various spots until she married my father. When I was a kid , there were many places that you just didn’t go because they were considered un-safe. Much has changed since then, for the better and neighborhoods that used to be sketchy are now trendy.
It would be nice if Philly were to experiences some such trends, but right now, the criminals have the upper hand and it is undeniably pretty rough and dangerous
