Im having trouble picking a college in California. I prefer going somewhere in Southern California and Im interested in studying social work or counseling psychology pretty much psychology in general. Of course picking a college in California is almost impossible with all of the Cal States and UCs and of course private schools and Im done looking on goggle. So I could really use some help any advice would be great

Definitely check out Pepperdine, I visited the campus while I was touring colleges down there and Pepperdine was great. Great academics, one of the most beautiful campuses in the country, and right on the beach. It can get a bad rep for being really snobby and stuck-up, but all the people I met on campus were really nice. After my visit they even sent me a handwritten postcard thanking me for my interest, always a nice touch.

Wait until you know where you have been accepted before you get set on going anywhere. What type campus are you interested in, large or small? Public or private? Big city or suburb? Are you a big fan of intercollegiate sports or not?

Well I’m looking at schools I know I have a chance of getting into. I would like to go to a school that has things to do around it because I’m a city girl. Possibly small but I can deal with a large school. Not very competitve so schools like UC Berkely and UCLA are out. I would prefer a private school but they can be really expensive so I’m open to public. Sports aren’t important to me I really care about being in a city and a good psychology program

Marie, for someone to help we’d need to know your unweighted GPA, weighted GPA, the type of school you attend, your PSAT or SAT or ACT scores.

Well my GPA is 3.5 and I’m involved with different programs and clubs like AVID, EAOP, drama club, and helping hands (a volunteer club at my school) and I also volunteer alot. I got 470-reading 390-math 470-writing on my SAT’s for my first try I’m taking them again in the fall, my ACT score is 17 but again that was my first time. And my class rank is 108 out of 804 I think.

Do you know your UC GPA? Your test scores might disqualify you for UC admission.

What’s a UC GPA? I’ve never heard of that. And I know I’m planning on taking the SAT’s again to get a better score

Are you going to a California high school? Your UC GPA is your grades from your soph & junior years for approved courses, with up to 8 additional points given for AP and honors courses.
