Schools in the South-- Suggestions??

Hey guys

I'm looking for schools in the south....small or medium sized, presitgous schools

So far I've got Emory, Rice, Duke, and Vanderbilt.

Any other suggestions?

uva, w&m, wake forest, unc-ch, washington & lee, davidson

you forgot UT

Tulane is both in the south and considered by some to be prestigious.

depends what kind of major you want

undecided major (i know, very helpful lol)

thanks for the suggestions so far, please keep them coming

if youre undecided and you like small schools, try to find some liberal arts colleges. like some jags listed: washington and lee, davidson. lol most "prestigious" schools are up north unless you know what major youre going into

Uf........

emory, tulane, vanderbilt, duke, rice, wake forest are the prestigous southern schools

^^^for universities which is a different classification than LACs. W&L and Davidson are definitely top LACs that are located below the M-D line.

UT-Austin is the highest ranked in terms of faculty quality and academic departments - across the board, per the NRC and London Times, at least. Actually, I think Duke passed it in the London Times rankings, but that's the only one.

Hampden-Sydney is very old-1776,small-about 1000 students, strictly liberal arts-no business,no engineering,no fluff or junk courses, all male-one of only two such left in America, very Southern-a place where tradition, patriotism, chivalry, brotherhood and manners reign supreme.Sports and frats are big.The friendliest and most hospitable school in America.

The OP is a girl according to the little profile under her name. She can't go to HSC. However, she can also consider Mary Baldwin, Sweet Briar, Agnes Scott--all women's colleges (not really prestigious though).

I hardly think UT-Austin would be considered small or medium-sized.

You might also want to look into Trinity University in San Antonio. It's not on the same level as Rice, but it's a good school that goes under the radar.

Sewanee, Rhodes, Centre

i was just going to say those ! haha
Furman too

also i hear that the honors programs at LSU and Ole Miss and even Bama are pretty good ... can anyone verify that ?

yes but small - medium sized doesn't mean 30k+. even UNC and UVa push the limits of "medium" sized

MoWC is right. UT Austin is a great school, but if the OP prefers a smaller size, that's her preference. Even if UT, UNC, UF, and UVA are amongst the best, they probably aren't the best fit for her.

I second recommendations for Emory, Tulane, Rice, Davidson, etc. I also offer up Elon and Stetson, which are not as competitive to get into, but still have strong academics.

Wake Forest is pretty small-mediumish.
