Hey guys, I'm a junior from America so I won't be applying to schools till after the summer but I figured it'd be nice to know about some options that I can look into internationally. As the title suggests, I was wondering about some schools in the UK, particularly ones that have strong international business or poli. sci. (specifically international relations) programs. To put things in perspective, I'll be looking into schools like Northeastern, McGill, American, with Georgetown probably being a bit of a reach.

One name I've heard of quite a bit is St. Andrews, and I may look into it, but I feel like that may have too much of a small town feel to it. The ones I mentioned above all have a campus feel accompanied by the amenities of the night life, sports, culture, etc. of a city. So basically are there any schools similar to the things I've mentioned in the UK? Thanks

I’d urge you not to discount St Andrews just because of its location. You wont find American style campuses/colleges in the UK. It is very different over here. Look at:

LSE
St Andrews
Cambridge
UCL
Oxford
Durham (a tiny city that feels very campus-y)
Warwick (maybe the closest to a US campus… but its very ugly :D)
Edinburgh

Thanks Dionysus. I’ll definitely research some of those. If you don’t mind could you elaborate on St. Andrews as well? I know it’ll obviously be a good education, is highly regarded globally, and has a very nice scenic campus but do you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere? I guess I’m just afraid that I’d feel isolated to a “same thing, different day” social atmosphere.

I was accepted at Essex, SOAS and KCL. Rejected by the others.
In the US I was accepted to Georgetown and many more.

Do not discredit Unis because of their town’s size: St. Andrews, Essex and so on ahve a better party-szene than all of D.C.

Another plus for the UK is, that u will often be able to graduate within three years. But the competition among US-applicants is tough, as a US-hs-diploma is not considered very highly here (not considered HS-equivalent in many EU-countries). Also your ECs are worthless here.

So: If you have good marks, go for it. The system is easy and fast (you can finish your applications all in 2hours).

I will probably be attending SOAS this fall.

Generally well regarded for Politics and IR are:

Oxbridge
St. Andrews
SOAS
Essex
Warwick
LSE
