Schools like Brown

I heard that Brown doesn't make you take mandatory classes like French level II when you're a Business major or Calculus 101 if you're a psychology major. Which other colleges are like this in that you only have to take courses from your major and then you can choose which others you take?

I believe that if you are admitted to UVA as an Echol’s scholar (an elite upper portion of accepted students) that you do not have to fulfill the usual distribution requirements. (and you would have to double check the full description of this.) You cannot apply to be an Echol’s scholar. It is a distinction granted to a small proportion of admitted students, but you do know if you have that status before you have to accept admission. There may be other schools that waive distribution requirements that are not on the list above.

Amherst, one of the top LACs

Look at LACs because many, like Grinnell, have either no requirements or very few requirements. But you should understand, at Brown, the system is not meant for you to give up on a subject, but rather to explore it with the option of S/NC to fulfill a full liberal arts education.

Wesleyan has no required classes and I know they have a lot of cross-admits with Brown
