Schools like Dartmouth, Middlebury

I'm trying to find schools that have a college atmosphere like the two above. campus based social life, strong academics, small-medium student body

Others I can think of might be Wake Forest, Colgate, Cornell, Hamilton, Williams, Bowdoin, Davidson

What other ones are there?

Williams would be absolutely ideal… because of its excellent reputation, strong academics and small student body… but to be honest, all of those schools seems like a good fit… I would say Cornell a bit less so … but Wake, Colgate, Hamilton, Bowdoin, Davidson AND Williams seem to match all your descriptions… do you have any other criteria so that people can narrow it down further?

add Princeton, Amherst and Lehigh

Carleton and Oberlin would fit, as would Bates and Colby, and the Claremont Colleges. Amherst.

Dartmouth is really a mid-sized school from an undergraduate point of view, with about the same number of UGs as Yale, Harvard, et al: 4K-5K

Most of the LACs you have listed are about half that size. It makes a difference.

Cornell is much bigger, and Wake seems like an outlier in many ways.

Do you have more criteria?

Middlebury, Dartmouth, and Williams are commonly grouped together – not just because of academic and social similarities, but because all three are located in relatively small, isolated, snowy New England towns near the mountains. Middlebury and Williams are more similar to each other than either is to Dartmouth, since Dartmouth is significantly larger and has a strong Greek system.

People applying to these three schools often apply to schools like Colgate, Bowdoin, Bates, Colby, and Hamilton as well. These other schools are also small and selective and are located in similarly isolated corners of northern New England or upstate New York. However, they don’t have the same “mountain” atmosphere. Cornell is like this too, but much larger.

Small non-northeastern schools with points of similarity to Dartmouth/Midd/Williams might include Davidson, Washington & Lee, Carleton, Whitman, or Colorado College.

I don’t think Carleton has quite the same jock vibe the schools the OP mentioned do.

Colgate, Bucknell, Holy Cross.

I agree, but the OP hasn’t specified that as a criteria.

I don’t care about a joke vibe (although I am a bit of a jock)

I’m just looking for a strong academic atmosphere, with small to medium size (5k undergrads is okay), good programs in poly sci, intl studies, environmental studies.
Also want a school where the social life is on campus (aka not Georgetown lets say), and I just want a school that has laid back down to earth kids

what else can I narrow it down to? I’m having a hard time narrowing haha
