<p>I posted this on the Search forum but thought I'd try here too. Currently on a college visit road trip. D likes University of Oklahoma the best so far, but thinks it is too close to home and that the weather will be too hot. Looking for an OU clone but with more snow, I guess. Beautiful campus, nice dorms, good academics, great school spirit, under 20,000 students. Ideas?</p>

<p>How about Colorado State in Ft. Collins? It’s a bit isolated transportation-wise … but so is Norman.</p>
<p>^ That makes three for ColoState, so it’s definitely worth a look :)</p>
<p>Iowa State has 22,000 students, U of Iowa a few less. </p>
<p>Hillsdale College in southern Michigan is gorgeous, inexpensive for a private school, filled with spirit, and offers the best education at a midwestern LAC.</p>

Look at the Kansas schools and the Colorado schools. Many of which will be familiar with her high school . Has she looked at Arkansas (don’t gag, lot’s of good Texas kids go there and with lots of merit aid) Great school. PM me if you want to talk to my friends who have kids there.</p>
<p>Northern Arizona…lots of snow in the winter. Under 20,000. Nice campus. Flagstaff is a great town. Merit aid for stats. Lots to offer including zero increase in tuition guaranteed for 4 years.</p>
<p>How about the Midwest’s OU, Ohio University in Athens, OH?

<p>We visited KU…campus too needlessly huge/spread out. Liked K State but the freshman dorm rooms are tiny. At Arkansas right now…I like the college town a lot; the campus gets low marks on the beauty scale.</p>
<p>As for transportation, would like the location to be accessable by a direct flight from Dalllas…don’t want a school where we fly somewhere then drive for three hours.</p>
<p>(BTW, D thinks about the only school color she couldn’t handle would be green.)</p>

<p>^___ Another vote for the “other OU,” Ohio University. My son graduated from there in 2009 and it’s a great place. Oh, and if she has a 3.0 GPA and a 1130 Math+CR SAT score (or a 25 ACT), she will get a $6,000 a year scholarship automatically plus some additional money for each notch above the 25 ACT or 1130 score.</p>

<p>Transportation is a problem. You fly into Columbus, but then drive 75 miles to get to Athens. But my son - who had looked at a zillion schools without any great enthusiasm, really changed his body language the moment we stepped on campus. OU is famous for its incredibly friendly students and faculty. We knew almost instantly that it was a fit.</p>
<p>No one has mentioned Mizzou…I know that it is the perfect example of difficult to get to. U of Wisconsin - too big and pretty pricey for OOS?</p>
<p>I can’t tell you how much I wanted her to love Arkansas…it would cost less than our in state Us.</p>

<p>We were pleasantly surprised to find out that there is a direct flight from DFW to Manhattan, KS.</p>

<p>They offer merit aid to out of state students. Rolling admissions, so she could have an acceptance in hand early on.<br>
Unfortunately getting in and out of Flagstaff isn’t easy.</p>

Missiypie, I may have visited with you while you were in our office! We do apologize for all the construction going on right now. We intend to have the roof replacements (there are at least five happening right now) and parking garage project (the one messing up the north side of campus right now) finished by August. One of the downsides of visiting in the summer other than there being fewer students is we try to hurry up and do all the projects then. The Peabody restoration on Old Main lawn (which I think is a beautiful part of campus) will take another year, however. </p>
<p>If you don’t mind, would you PM (or you can post in here, I’m not shy) me about issues you had with the aesthetics of campus? We are continually giving students surveys about areas they’d like to see improved, and I’d be curious to hear thoughts from you since you have been visiting several other similar sized schools.

<p>missypie, I’m a big fan of Arkansas (and all that Walton money for the Honors College and travel). 3 family friends from Central Texas just graduated, all having great experiences. </p>
<p>As to your question about other possibles, I’m struggling with the snow/airport thang… but I’m still thinking. ;)</p>
<p>Does Wyoming have an airport? Or do you just land directly on a frozen cow?</p>
<p>Edit: My nephew-in-law attended Wyoming and liked it but he was engineering.</p>
<p>How about another OU…Ohio University in Athens Ohio. Beautiful campus, nice facilities, great programs, and good sports.</p>
